Let music contribute to promoting tourism

In recent years, there have been more and more songs and music videos with content and forms introducing and promoting images of nature, products and life of a province or city in Vietnam. Through enjoying musical works, many audiences know many local landmarks and destinations mentioned in those products. Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa is considered a place with developed tourism activities, so having truly outstanding musical works in particular and literary and artistic works in general to create a tourism promotion effect is what many people look forward to.

Music videos promoting tourism are booming.

Recently, on social networking forums, there has been a “fever” with the music video “Bac Bling” by singer Hoa Minzy. After just over a week of release, this MV has surpassed 24 million views and is ranked number 1 in the trending music category on YouTube Vietnam. In order for this music product to be so successful, the production team has invested heavily in the song, choreography, and setting. Many viewers commented that watching “Bac Bling” is like traveling through the screen to famous landmarks of Kinh Bac such as: Dau Pagoda, Phu Lang pottery village, Ba Chua Kho temple, Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk song theater... The lyrics in “Bac Bling” also evoke images of the cultural space of this land: “Invite you to Bac Ninh, I will visit/Festivals are bustling and crowded all year round/Go to Ba Chua temple to pray for luck and fortune/On the full moon day of August, leisurely play with the moon/Race boats on the Nhu Nguyet river/Many historical books about the land of talented people/Tam Phu, a sacred paradise...”. The effect of the MV has contributed to attracting the attention of many people and domestic tourists to this land of talented people.

Music promoting tourism is not only about “Bac Bling”. Previously, there were many other notable music products such as: MV “Ha Giang oi!” by singer Quach Beem with images of Ma Pi Leng pass, Nho Que river, Lung Cu flagpole, Dong Van stone plateau; young singer Ha Thom made MV “Khoi lam chieu” with the mountain and forest scenery in Son La province, Da river, hills of cotton flowers, stilt houses. Raper Den Vau is also an artist who actively exploits the beauty of regions and thereby indirectly promotes the local image with the million-view MV “Nau com cho em” made in Dien Bien; “Di ve nha” made in Da Lat; “Mang tien ve cho me” made in Quang Nam; “Nhac cua rung” made in Cat Tien National Park (Dong Nai). Singer Van Mai Huong has MV “Hoa khong huong” with beautiful images of the ancient capital Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh); Singer Huyen Trang has the song “Anh co ve Quang Binh cung em”; singer Only C promoted Da Nang tourism with the MV “Tuyet voi Da Nang” with images of Han River, Dragon Bridge, My Khe Beach, Son Tra Peninsula, Ba Na Hills… A common feature when watching these music videos is that they all inspire the audience to want to pack their backpacks and go to the places where the artists made their music products.

To promote Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa through music

With Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa, the production of music videos to promote and introduce local tourism has also been of interest to artists. One can mention the MV "La day Nha Trang" - a community music project with the participation of artists: Duong Trieu Vu, Truong Quynh Anh, Khai Dang, Minh Tuyet, Toc Tien, Duong Hoang Yen, MC Minh Xu. Through that, it introduced to the audience beautiful and everyday images of Vinh Truong fish market, Dam market, Xom Con residential area... Or the MV "Vinh ngoc vang sang" performed by two young singers Hien VK and Dung Azu brought the audience to the beautiful sea and island scenery of Nha Trang, the special national monument of Ponagar Tower, Long Son Pagoda... Although there were many promotional efforts, in general, the appeal of the above 2 MVs to the audience was still not really "hot" as expected.

Sharing with us, musician Do Hong Quan - Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front said that in order for Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa to have musical works to serve the needs of tourism promotion, it is necessary to have the synchronous and strong participation of local authorities and specialized associations. Khanh Hoa has a relatively large number of musicians, and Khanh Hoa is also a land that converges all the favorable factors for socio-economic development, especially tourism activities. Musicians in Khanh Hoa who write in new music need to focus on practical topics to promote tourism, introduce the beauty of nature and people. In particular, it is necessary to focus on exploiting local folk songs and folk music. It could be the music of ethnic minorities in the mountains, the ho ba trao of coastal fishermen, the bai choi singing of people in the plains... In reality, most of the outstanding music videos about tourism exploit the identities and strengths of each locality. That is what creates the unique characteristics of Khanh Hoa's new music, but if we follow normal new music, there will be no outline and the local specialties will be ignored. To do this, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association needs to pay attention to nurturing young musicians; have a professional direction for creative activities to create high-quality works.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa is a place with a lot of potential for the relationship between music and tourism. However, how to unleash that potential to bring quality and attractive music products to the audience is a problem that needs to be solved by musicians and managers.
