On the evening of April 18, Cua Lo town (Nghe An) held the opening ceremony of the 2024 Cua Lo Sea Tourism Festival. In addition to the art program and fireworks display, this year, the opening ceremony of the Cua Lo tourism festival featured performances by hundreds of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) in the sky.
Since the afternoon, crowds of people have flocked to Binh Minh Square (Cua Lo town) to watch the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony area is limited to the center of the square, reserved for delegates, guests and a small number of residents.

The opening ceremony did not start until 8pm, but by 7pm, locals and tourists had packed Binh Minh Square. Visitors without invitations had to find suitable seats around the area to watch the performances, especially the fireworks display and the flying machine demonstration.
Mr. Phan Dinh Trung and 5 family members from Dien Hanh commune (Dien Chau district, Nghe An) came to Cua Lo in the afternoon to swim and enjoy seafood. In the evening, Mr. Trung took his whole family to the square to watch the fireworks. Because he arrived early, Mr. Trung chose a position close to the security fence to wait for the opening time of the festival.

To help his parents, wife and children avoid getting tired legs, Mr. Trung decided to rent 6 plastic chairs. "The rental price for each chair is 10,000 VND, 6 chairs is 60,000 VND," said this man. This was his first time attending the opening ceremony of a beach tourism festival, so he was a bit surprised by this service.
At the area outside the opening ceremony, stacks of plastic chairs were transported. Ms. Lan (from Yen Thanh, running a food service business in Cua Lo) stood in front of two stacks of chairs, quickly collecting money and handing out chairs to customers.

According to this woman, the service of renting chairs to watch the opening ceremony has been around for several years. The price for renting chairs is 10,000-15,000 VND/chair depending on the rental household.
"I rent out chairs for 10,000 VND. I have rented out about 30 chairs since last night. My family is still bringing out chairs, and they are taking out all the chairs," said Ms. Lan.
The renter pays and receives the chairs, and no deposit is required. The renter receives the money and collects the chairs at the end of the day. Each family's chairs have their own symbols for easy identification and sorting.
"Some years we have enough chairs, some years we don't. Like last year we were missing 15 chairs, each chair cost 45,000 VND, we lost 600,000 VND, so all night's work was in vain," said Ms. Lan.

Despite the high risk, many businesses in Cua Lo continued to rent out chairs on opening night. Some businesses mobilized 3-4 family members to help transport the chairs and collect the money.
"The ceremony lasted several hours, standing for a long time made my legs tired, the concrete yard was hot, and there were so many people jostling each other that all the chairs were rented out for as many customers as there were guests. Now we just have to wait until the ceremony is over to collect chairs, hoping to collect enough chairs," said Minh, a chair renter.
