At the introduction of the project “The Yin and Yang Road”, the film crew released a behind-the-scenes video recording the production process. As the first Vietnamese horror travel film, the crew went through a long process from script development to setting selection and filming.

As the third film project that director Hoang Tuan Cuong pursues the horror and romantic comedy genres after “Nha khong ban” and “Vong nhi”, he said that the whole crew had hesitated with many different names. According to the explanation, “Am Duong Lo” has a more comprehensive meaning, not just a story about a road, an ambulance but the film will open up a whole spiritual world.

Sharing with reporters, the director said that the process of developing the script for this project was a difficult and very sensitive topic. However, his point of view is to always want to include the most realistic stories possible in the film: “I chose the topic of ambulances because it has many spiritual elements. The stories in the film are all distilled from the profession of ambulance drivers that the crew has researched and consulted with people who are doing this job in real life. In particular, the film has a more spiritual direction, so within my ability, I want it to be conveyed as realistically as possible.”

Regarding the story of bringing the ambulance driving profession to the big screen, producer Bich Lien also shared that this is a profession that deserves to be respected. Because, those who do this job not only save sick people, there are people who are very sick, or even people who have died on those trips.

Therefore, through the film, the crew wants to send gratitude to ambulance drivers and hopes that everyone will continue to dedicate themselves to this profession.

When asked about the overuse of jump scares in the film, the director denied it. According to him, horror films are required to have jump scares, no matter how small. With this project, he did not overuse them, but was selective and restrained enough to make the audience feel a little startled or scared when they go to the cinema.

Also related to the horror element in the film and the censorship story, this is also a problem that poses many challenges for the film crew. The director analyzed that a successful horror film must make the audience scared, and to be scared it must be real. But to do those two things, there must be a harmonious balance so that the film can pass the censorship.

“I try to build a story that has emotion and the spiritual stories I put into the film must have a reason. Then, the audience will feel that the story I tell is real and can pass censorship so that the film reaches the audience in its fullest form.”

Meanwhile, the male lead Bach Cong Khanh shared that in the film he drove completely on real roads and did not use any supporting tools, even though the film was filmed at Khanh Le Pass (connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat).

According to the male star, if he filmed in a studio, he was afraid that his acting would not feel real. Although he had a small accident that burned the brake pads of his car during filming, all of his experiences with “The Yin and Yang Road” were very memorable.

For Lan Thy, the scenes where Bach Cong Khanh had to drive himself were thrilling, mixed with a bit of fear. The actress said that she felt like she was playing the role of a bus conductor when acting with her senior, having to act while constantly reminding him about safety.

“The Road to Yin and Yang” tells the story of an unemployed graduate’s journey to make a living. While secretly transporting a female corpse to Mang Den in the middle of the night without his father’s knowledge, he confronts a supernatural world filled with ghosts, a mysterious girl, and the truth connected to the ambulance he is driving.

The film is labeled T16 (not for audiences under 16 years old) and has early screenings from 6pm on March 26, all day on March 27 before officially showing on March 28.
