The Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications) has just coordinated with Google to launch the "Online Safety" handbook. This is a document that provides the most basic information to help everyone, especially the elderly, know how to prevent online scams and harmful information on cyberspace.
The "Online Safety" guide will help seniors know how to avoid online scams
This handbook is provided free of charge on the National Cyberspace Portal at https://khonggianmang.vn/ and spread to 63 provinces and cities nationwide.
According to the Department of Information Security, along with other target groups such as children, students or low-income workers, the elderly have recently been one of the targets targeted by fraud attack groups.
The reason is that the elderly often have little access to and are not updated with information related to anti-fraud, so they do not have enough resistance to respond to the sophisticated fraud tricks of bad guys.
The contents of the "Online Safety" handbook are selected and presented in an easy-to-see, easy-to-understand and easy-to-apply infographic format. The handbook is assigned a QR code to make it easier for people to use as a publication for propaganda, dissemination and guidance to the public.
The main content groups selected by the editorial team to include in the "Online Safety" handbook include: account security, smart sharing, avoiding online fraud, useful reference sources, and reporting behaviors that show signs of online fraud.
In particular, the content of preventing online fraud, in addition to briefly stating the concept of online fraud, the publication also points out common forms of online fraud, how to recognize fraud, principles of preventing fraud, what to do when becoming a victim of online fraud...
The handbook warns of many forms of fraud targeting the elderly such as: cheap travel combo scams; deepfake video call scams; phone SIM lock scams; impersonating authorities to steal information...
Ho Chi Minh City youth volunteers help the elderly install apps and scan QR codes for payment
The Department of Information Security said that in the coming time, under the coordination of the Department of Information Security, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union will direct the Thanh Giong Knowledge Portal to coordinate with the Center for Family Health and Community Development (CFC) to organize a youth training program to support the elderly in preventing and combating harmful information on cyberspace.
The handbook will be used in training to share online safety knowledge with young people in 63 provinces and cities. Accordingly, young people can guide the elderly to use the internet more safely, helping to narrow the gap between generations, creating a safe, healthy and beneficial internet environment for all ages.
