Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee spoke.

Attending the workshop were Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Consul General of Vietnam in Vancouver, Canada; Mr. Dan On, Chairman of Vietnam-Canada Business Association; representative of the Canadian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, representative of CanCharm... and more than 130 guests who are Canadian and Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs. The workshop was conducted in a combination of in-person and online formats.

In the introduction, on behalf of the Vietnam-Canada Business Association, Mr. Dan On briefly introduced the establishment process and main activities of the Association.

VCB Association was established in October 2022 with the aim of connecting Canadian entrepreneurs and businesses, including Vietnamese entrepreneurs who have been operating or intend to do business and invest in Vietnam with Vietnamese entrepreneurs who have been, are, or intend to do business and invest in Canada to create a strong, diverse organization with a lot of business experience, a deep understanding of economics, culture, and law - capable of helping, supporting and growing together.

After just over a year of establishment, VCB Association has quickly grown, developed and initially had many meaningful activities. Today's seminar aims to introduce and provide information to Vietnamese enterprises wishing to invest and do business in the Canadian market, and at the same time connect Vietnamese enterprises with potential partners from Canada.

On behalf of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan welcomed the efforts of VCB Association in coordination with the City's ITPC Center in organizing seminars, providing information and connecting businesses.

Mr. Vo Van Hoan also emphasized the City's policy of calling on Canadian businesses to increase investment and business in the City and encouraging Vietnamese businesses to research the Canadian market, strengthen business cooperation and invest in areas where businesses can be strong based on careful research of market characteristics, requirements and feasibility of investment and business.

Ông Nguyễn Quang Trung, Tổng Lãnh sự Việt Nam tại Vancouver phát biểu.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Consul General of Vietnam in Vancouver spoke.

Speaking at the workshop, Consul General Nguyen Quang Trung reviewed the Vietnam-Canada relationship over 50 years of development (1973-2023). Over the past five decades, the bilateral relationship between the two countries has developed strongly, comprehensively and effectively, in many fields from politics, economics, education, to people-to-people exchanges.

Along with federal-level relations, cooperation between localities is growing stronger (in 2023, 4 delegations from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh visited Canada).

In terms of economic relations, Vietnam has become Canada's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia. However, bilateral trade relations between Vietnam and Canada still account for a relatively modest proportion compared to the overall relations between Canada and the rest of the world, and there is still a lot of room for Vietnamese investors in this market.

The British Columbia (BC) provincial government in the Western region has set out a trade diversification strategy and has opened a trade and investment office in Ho Chi Minh City and a BC forestry innovation investment office in Binh Duong province. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has also shown strong determination in strengthening economic and trade relations with Canada in general and with BC in particular.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung also mentioned the current trade and investment fields that the two sides are conducting and the potential fields that Vietnamese enterprises can consider in the Canadian market. He welcomed the VCB Association and suggested that enterprises and businessmen in Ho Chi Minh City consider becoming members of the VCB Association; thereby thoroughly researching and conducting investment and business with Canada if possible.

Consul General Nguyen Quang Trung affirmed that diplomacy serving the country's economic development is one of the extremely important tasks of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad.

The Q&A session between Vietnamese enterprises and VCB Association was very lively and practical. Enterprises expressed their desire to join the Association and asked the Association to find ways to support and connect enterprises to do business and invest in the Canadian market.

Vietnamese members of VCB Association have interacted and connected with domestic businesses in an atmosphere of solidarity and are ready to support each other to succeed.
