Being present at the waste treatment area of Que Phong district in the past September, I witnessed many children in the area coming here to play without any security guards. Under the garbage pits, weeds and grass grow quite a lot. On the concrete roads around the garbage pits, there are occasional cracks.

Local people are concerned that the waste treatment area has been completed but not yet put into use. If children continue to play there and people continue to graze their buffaloes and cows, the project will be damaged, especially the tarpaulin covering the waste pit is easily torn. People hope that the local government will soon put it into operation to end the situation of household waste piling up at places in residential areas, especially Kim Son town.
It is known that the Que Phong district waste treatment area has an area of over 20 thousand square meters located in Bon village, Kim Son town. The project has a total investment of over 56 billion VND, with the Que Phong district People's Committee as the investor. Currently, the Que Phong district People's Committee has invested in and completed phase 1, with a total investment of over 35 billion VND.

The waste treatment site is divided into 2 phases, phase 1 includes: Leveling items, internal dike and landfill. Phase 2 includes: Traffic system, rainwater drainage system, management and auxiliary works, domestic water supply system, green fence and environmental monitoring system, domestic electricity supply, weighing station, operator house...
The reason why the Que Phong district waste treatment project has not yet been put into operation, according to a representative of the Que Phong district Construction Investment Project Management Board, is that because phase 2 has not been completed, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has not agreed to put it into use. Therefore, the district People's Committee is currently asking for funding to build the remaining essential items of phase 2. In addition, there are 2 households in the area that must be relocated, but there is no compensation for site clearance.

Kim Son town currently has more than 2,300 households, with more than 100m3 of waste discharged into the environment every week. Due to the lack of a separate treatment area, the waste is dumped next to the town cemetery, affecting the spirituality and environment. In addition, other localities such as Tien Phong, Muong Noc, Chau Kim... have a large amount of domestic waste every day, which has not been properly treated for a long time.

The Que Phong district waste treatment project was approved in 2011 and construction started in 2013. However, due to lack of funding and difficulties in the technology conversion process, it was not until 2021 that the project continued to allocate investment capital to build phase 1 items.
