Indonesian Defense Minister and presidential candidate Subianto announced that he has chosen President Widodo's eldest son Raka as his running mate.
"Everyone has unanimously supported me as the presidential candidate and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the vice presidential candidate," Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said in a statement from his home in the capital Jakarta on October 22, with representatives of his Advanced Indonesia coalition party standing behind him.
Subianto's running mate is Gibran Rakabuming Raka, 36, the mayor of Surakarta and the eldest son of President Joko Widodo. This will be Subianto's third time running for president after losing to Widodo in the previous two elections.

Mr Widodo's son became a vice-presidential candidate after Chief Justice of the Indonesian Constitutional Court Anwar Usman ruled that candidates under 40 years old could run if they had previously been elected to public office.
More than 204 million Indonesians are expected to vote for a new leader on February 14 next year. The Election Commission said the deadline for registering presidential candidates is October 25. The new president will be sworn in in October 2024.
Widodo's ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has nominated former Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo as its presidential candidate and Security Minister Mahfud MD as its vice presidential candidate.
Former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan is also running for president of Indonesia next year. Mr. Baswedan is considered a potential candidate with the support of Islamic groups in Indonesia.
