Colombia's Tran Quyet Chien entered the 3-cushion carom World Cup semi-finals for the seventh time, after defeating Tolgahan Kiraz 50-33 after 34 innings in the quarter-finals in Bogota.
In the round of 16 and quarter-finals, which took place on the morning of March 3, Hanoi time, Vietnam's number one player defeated both Turkish representatives. He dramatically defeated former world champion Tayfun Tasdemir 50-49 after 30 rounds in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals, Quyet Chien continued to defeat Kiraz.

Kiraz himself eliminated the other representative of Vietnam, Tran Thanh Luc, with a score of 50-39 after 33 shots in the round of 16. Thanh Luc, Bao Phuong Vinh, Chiem Hong Thai and other Vietnamese players who were eliminated in the tournament were also in the stands to cheer for Quyet Chien's victory.
In the semi-finals, Quyet Chien will meet Glenn Hofman (Netherlands) at 1:30 a.m. on Monday, March 4, Hanoi time. The Dutch player is considered a phenomenon at the tournament, as he is only ranked 47th in the world, 42 places behind Quyet Chien. The remaining semi-final match will take place between Sameh Sidhom (Egypt) and Robinson Morales (Spain) at 11 p.m. today, Sunday, March 3. In which, the Egyptian player is rated higher, as he is ranked seventh in the world.
If he makes it to the final, Quyet Chien could meet Sidhom again, just like the World Cup final in Porto in July 2023. At that time, Vietnam's number one player won 50-30, to be crowned champion for the second time at the tournament. This time, Sidhom also had good form, defeating legendary player Dick Jaspers 50-37 in the quarterfinals, after only 19 shots.
This is the seventh time Quyet Chien has reached the semi-finals of the 3-cushion carom World Cup, while no other representative of Vietnam has done this five times. The 40-year-old player is also the only Vietnamese to have ever won this tournament, and he did it twice, in Ho Chi Minh City in 2018 and Porto in 2023.
