My family often eats sticky rice for breakfast. It's simple, quick, clean, and filling. Is it good to eat sticky rice every day? (Nga, 29 years old, Hanoi)

Reply:

Sticky rice is a familiar dish, many people choose to eat for breakfast because it is convenient because it can be held in hand, not inconvenient like food with water. In addition, sticky rice is cheaper than other breakfast dishes, eating a lot makes you full for a long time, so workers often use it. However, it should not be eaten regularly and some people should not use it for breakfast.

Sticky rice is a sticky rice dish, processed in a variety of ways, not just simply white sticky rice, sticky rice with beans, but also combined with many other foods such as sticky rice with skewers, sticky rice with eggs, sticky rice with braised meat... From a nutritional perspective, a serving of sticky rice currently contains 400-600 kcal, which can be excess energy for breakfast, higher than a loaf of bread or a bowl of noodles or pho. Therefore, regularly eating sticky rice can easily cause overweight and obesity. If you are trying to lose weight, it is best to limit eating sticky rice.

Moreover, although it makes you feel full for a long time, it is not balanced in nutrients. Sticky rice contains almost only carbohydrates, combined with meat, eggs, and pork floss, it has more protein and fat, but lacks vitamins and minerals from vegetables and fruits, if any, it is not significant. Therefore, you should not eat sticky rice every day, only twice a week, each time should eat a sufficient amount.

Sticky rice should be combined with other foods such as meat, beans, eggs, and vegetables to provide adequate nutrients and breakfast should be regularly replaced with other dishes for variety.
