At the invitation of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, on September 30, General Secretary and President of Vietnam To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, will pay a State visit to Mongolia. On this occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mongolia Nguyen Tuan Thanh gave an interview about the bilateral relationship as well as the significance of the visit. The following is the content of the interview: Reporter: Could you please assess the main features of the current cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Mongolia, the room and potential of this cooperative relationship? Ambassador Nguyen Tuan Thanh: Vietnam and Mongolia established diplomatic relations on November 17, 1954. Mongolia is one of the earliest countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam and Vietnam is the first country in Southeast Asia with which Mongolia established diplomatic relations. Over the past 70 years, the traditional friendship between the two countries has continuously developed and achieved many achievements. Currently, on the basis of mutual understanding and respect, the friendly relationship is increasingly consolidated and strengthened, especially in the fields of security, defense, economy and trade. Political and diplomatic relations are always well maintained. The two countries have achieved high political understanding and trust and consider each other as important partners to develop the relationship. The two sides regularly exchange delegations at high and all levels to tighten and promote the bilateral relationship. The two countries also share views on maintaining regional peace and stability, regularly exchange delegations at all levels, sign many documents regulating cooperation frameworks such as strategic research cooperation; information sharing and immigration management; prevention of transnational drug crimes... The two countries actively cooperate in the fields of sending UN peacekeeping forces, military medicine... Mongolia has helped Vietnam build a Mobile Cavalry Police Corps. The two countries have also increased coordination and mutual support in international forums such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and other regional organizations. This relationship is promoted on the basis of sharing common interests in peace, development and stability. Economic and trade cooperation has been continuously strengthened and expanded, with two-way trade turnover in 2023 reaching more than 130 million USD. Trade turnover between Vietnam and Mongolia is still modest but has strong potential for development, especially in the fields of exporting agricultural products, food and consumer goods from Vietnam. At the same time, Vietnam can become a market for agricultural products and raw materials from Mongolia, such as coal, beef, goat, sheep and livestock products. Currently, many Mongolian students are studying in Vietnam and vice versa. The two sides also cooperate in cultural and artistic exchange activities to enhance mutual understanding. Many typical literary works of the two countries have been translated into each other's languages. Notably, since 1980, Mongolia has named the 14th inter-level school in the capital Ulaanbaatar after President Ho Chi Minh. The school is a symbol of cooperation between the two countries, regularly holding cultural activities on major holidays in Vietnam. In general, it can be seen that the Vietnam-Mongolia relationship is increasingly expanding and has great potential for development in many fields, especially in the fields of economics, trade and agriculture. In terms of economy, the two sides can focus on areas of strength such as mining, steelmaking, import and export of agricultural products, processed foods, and livestock products. In terms of tourism, due to differences in climate and geography, the two countries have attractive tourism products for each other's tourists. Both countries aim to develop the tourism industry and have exempted visas for tourists, opened direct flights, creating favorable conditions for exploiting and developing tourism in the coming time, thereby promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Agriculture is also a potential area for cooperation between the two countries. Mongolia has strengths in livestock farming, Vietnam has strengths in crop cultivation and food production. The two countries can cooperate in exchanging technology, experience and agricultural products. Vietnam and Mongolia can also promote cooperation in the fields of investment and technology exchange, especially in agriculture, livestock farming and industrial production. This will create sustainable development opportunities for the two countries. In addition, the two countries still have many potentials and advantages for cooperation in the fields of education and training, telecommunications, food processing, animal feed processing, pharmaceuticals, mineral exploitation, etc. Reporter: Could you please tell us what new impetus the upcoming visit to Mongolia by General Secretary and President To Lam will bring to the bilateral relationship? Which areas of cooperation with Mongolia are expected to be promoted after this remarkable visit? Ambassador Nguyen Tuan Thanh: The upcoming visit by General Secretary and President To Lam will be historic, bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new level, contributing significantly to orienting and opening up prospects for cooperation between the two countries, creating new momentum for the relationship between the two countries in many fields, especially key areas such as trade, agriculture and transportation.

Specifically, in terms of trade and logistics, the two countries have agreed to find solutions to remove difficulties in the fields of logistics, rail, sea and air transport to increase the exchange of goods and bilateral trade in the coming time; agreed to promote cooperation in the field of agriculture, especially the export and quarantine of agricultural products such as goat and sheep meat from Mongolia and poultry meat and eggs from Vietnam. In my opinion, economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries will be promoted in a more substantial, effective and comprehensive direction. Trade promotion activities, promoting business cooperation connections will be strengthened and expanded; policies to improve the environment, encourage and protect investment will be strengthened to attract investment from both countries. Fields such as transportation, labor, tourism, culture and education will be promoted in a substantial and comprehensive direction. Scholarships from the two governments will also be expanded to meet the needs of students from both sides. In addition, other areas such as science, clean energy, renewable energy, and climate change will also be enhanced and promoted. Reporter: Thank you, Ambassador!
