OCOP program gives Ninh Thuan agricultural products a "new look"

In recent times, the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has helped Ninh Thuan agricultural products put on a "new coat", many products that were previously unknown to the market are now present in almost all provinces and cities, favored by consumers, creating a solid position in the market.

In the orientation of developing OCOP products, the province focuses on developing products in 6 groups, in which priority is given to agricultural, non-agricultural, and service products that are unique, traditional, and have advantages in each locality. The focus is on maximizing internal resources, increasing product value, and closely linking with community development.

To support entities in expanding markets and developing sustainable products, the Provincial People's Committee has invested tens of billions of VND to encourage economic organizations, cooperatives, and small and medium-sized enterprises to build value chains in the direction of circular economy, green OCOP associated with stable raw material areas and promote product promotion activities through trade fairs and exhibitions; build display and sales points for products associated with tourism and cultural activities to connect programs and shopping tourism routes at OCOP centers, stores, rest stops and experiences right at production facilities.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Director of Thanh Hai Agricultural Products Purchasing Cooperative, Thanh Hai Commune (Ninh Hai) was excited: Thanks to the attention and support of the functional sector, the cooperative's products are increasingly reaching further, along with that, the consumption volume has also increased 2-3 times compared to before, in which, the two main products Thanh Hai purple onion has achieved 3-star certification and Phan Rang garlic has achieved 4-star OCOP certification, further affirming the quality and brand of Ninh Thuan agricultural products in the market.

Many entities have made good use of specific products combined with local tourism development, many linkage models have been and are bringing high economic efficiency. Mr. Nguyen Khac Phong, Director of Thai An Agricultural Service Cooperative, Vinh Hai Commune (Ninh Hai) shared: Along with the NH01-152 grape product meeting 4-star standards, the Cooperative also has 7 other products certified as 3-star products including: Dried apples, sugar-free dried grapes, dried pink grapes, pink jelly jam, red grapes, grape honey, grape wine. Thanks to the OCOP certification, the Cooperative's products have become known to many people, helping to enhance its reputation and expand its consumption market. The Cooperative is expanding its investment in growing 5 new grape varieties in greenhouses according to a high-tech agricultural model and combining tourism development. In addition to visiting the vineyard, visitors can also experience the production process and enjoy products processed from grapes.

Comrade Truong Khac Tri, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: In order to bring OCOP products closer to consumers, the province promotes trade promotion, connecting supply and demand for OCOP products through fairs, exhibitions, events to honor, promote and introduce OCOP products annually in conjunction with cultural and tourism events at the provincial, regional, national and international levels to promote the consumption of OCOP products in conjunction with key tourism markets. In particular, building and forming separate OCOP product distribution chains, promoting supply and demand connection activities and strengthening links with e-commerce platforms to enhance product promotion and introduction. Along with traditional trade promotion activities, the province also promotes propaganda and coordinates tourism promotion associated with promoting the province's OCOP products through articles on the website http://ninhthuantourism.vn, the Ninh Thuan Tourism app "Ninh Thuan Tourism" on smart mobile devices and other social networking sites.

Over the past year, Ninh Thuan has strengthened cooperation in connecting trade and consumption of OCOP products with localities such as: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Can Tho... with main products such as: Wine, grapes, apples, asparagus, purple onions, garlic, vegetables and processed and prepared products. This is considered a solution to help Ninh Thuan's OCOP products penetrate deeper into the market through wholesale and retail chains, supermarkets, and large markets in major provinces and cities. On the other hand, through many important events held in the province such as: Organizing a walking street in Phan Rang - Thap Cham City; a program to welcome a delegation of Korean travel agencies to survey tourist destinations in Ninh Thuan province; a program to connect trade between Ninh Thuan enterprises and Central Retail Vietnam Group; The program of meeting tourism businesses, displaying, introducing and promoting tourism, special products, OCOP products such as: Pottery, textiles, fish sauce, aloe vera, asparagus tea, bird's nest, seaweed jam, grape wine, dried apples, lamb, organic vegetables... has attracted many domestic and foreign businesses to pay attention, learn and sign cooperation agreements.

With the support of the province and locality, the subjects are making efforts to exploit the maximum potential of the products, bringing the local agricultural product brand to the world. The units are constantly innovating, improving the quality of product reform, promoting value chain linkage, applying advanced techniques, both reducing production costs and ensuring green, organic products that meet export standards, including outstanding products such as: Asparagus, aloe vera, melon, cashew, ... Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuan, Director of Linh Dan Ninh Thuan Company Limited, shared: The company has more than 30 hectares of asparagus, supplying the market with about 700kg of fresh asparagus grade 1 every day. In 2023, the company invested in a standard cold storage system to preserve products longer, ensuring the preservation of nutrients, exporting 6-8 tons/month to markets in Taiwan, Korea, Singapore.

Or like Canh Dong Viet Food Joint Stock Company has built an aloe vera raw material area of ​​more than 250 hectares in Ninh Thuan to proactively source raw materials. Each year, it consumes more than 35,000 tons of fresh aloe vera leaves to produce 15,000 tons of aloe vera jelly with a strict production process that meets FSSC 22000, ISO, HALAL standards... Exporting to over 20 countries such as: Japan, Korea, some European countries, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia... and competes well in these markets.

Mr. Truong Khac Tri, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, added: Up to now, the whole province has 152 OCOP products with 3 stars and 30 products with 4 stars; there are 8 potential products with 5 stars. By the end of 2025, the province strives to have 5 potential 5-star products proposed for central assessment and national recognition. To achieve this goal, the province focuses on consolidating and upgrading at least 50% of OCOP products that have been assessed and classified; strives for 30% of OCOP entities to build a value chain in the direction of circular economy, green OCOP associated with stable raw material areas and at least 50% of craft villages to have OCOP products. The highlight in the coming period is to develop OCOP products associated with strong branding, while closely combining with the development of rural tourism services.
