Armenian Parliament Speaker Official Visit to Vietnam

On the evening of November 17, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan arrived in Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia was welcomed at Noi Bai International Airport by Permanent Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Pham Phu Binh, Ambassador of Armenia to Vietnam Suren Baghdasaryan. Accompanying the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia during the visit were National Assembly Deputies of the Civil Contract Party: Ms. Arusyak Manavazyan (Finance, Credit and Budget Committee), Ms. Lili Minasyan (State and Legal Committee), Mr. Hrachya Hakobyan (Health and Social Affairs Committee); National Assembly Deputies of the Armenian Party, Mr. Gegham Nazaryan (State and Legal Committee); Mr. Tigran Seiranian, Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Mr. Movses Harutyunyan, Press Secretary of the Speaker of the National Assembly; Mr. Aleksandr Mkhitaryan, Head of the Protocol Committee; Mr. Gamlet Gevorgian, Assistant to the Speaker of the National Assembly; and a number of officials and employees of the National Assembly of Armenia. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan was born on January 5, 1980, in Yerevan, Armenia. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Yerevan State University in 2000 and Master of Political Science, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia in 2015. In 2000-2002, he served in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. In 2002-2003, he was Assistant to the President of the Ajapnyak and Davitashen Communities Court of First Instance, Secretary of the Office. In 2003-2004, he worked as a Human Resources Manager at Converse Bank. From 2004 to 2018, he was an entrepreneur, working in the fields of media, music and film. From 2013 to 2015, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the civic-political alliance Civil Treaty. He was elected as a member of the Civil Contract Party Executive Committee in 2015 and re-elected in 2016. During 2015-2016, he served as Spokesperson of the Civil Contract Party. During 2017-2018, he was a member of the Yerevan Council of Elders, Way Out coalition. During 2018-2019, he was a Member of the National Assembly, a member of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly, a member of the Way Out Party. During 2019-2021, he served as Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly, and a member of the My Step Party. On June 20, 2021, he was elected as a Member of the National Assembly, belonging to the Civil Contract Party. On August 2, 2021, he was elected Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
