President Vo Van Thuong receives Mayor of Rome, Italy

During the State visit to the Republic of Italy, on the afternoon of July 26, President Vo Van Thuong met with Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.

At the meeting, Mayor Roberto Gualtieri warmly welcomed the President to Rome; expressed his admiration for the country and people of Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence and was impressed by Vietnam's remarkable socio-economic developments today; and highly appreciated the positive developments in the relationship between the two countries in general and between Rome and Hanoi in particular.

The Head of State of Vietnam expressed his impression of visiting Rome, the world's leading city of culture, history, art and architecture, on the occasion of the two countries celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership.

Appreciating the fruitful development of the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership in many fields, President Vo Van Thuong asked the Mayor of Rome and the city's leadership to encourage and promote cooperation between the Lazio and Rome regions with Hanoi, contributing to deepening multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

The President also suggested that the two sides strengthen coordination in organizing cooperation activities in the field of cultural heritage to enhance exchanges and promote the culture of each country and each city, thereby promoting people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding.

Agreeing with the proposals of President Vo Van Thuong, the Mayor of Rome said that Rome and Hanoi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation, including in the field of heritage conservation.

Mayor Gualtieri affirmed that he wishes to coordinate in organizing activities to celebrate the relationship between the two countries, and continue to cooperate closely with Hanoi and Vietnamese localities in the city's strengths such as economy - trade, tourism, education - training, cultural heritage preservation, energy conversion, digital conversion, and innovation.

On this occasion, the President invited the Mayor of Rome to visit Vietnam soon.
