October 10, 1954 marked an important historical event for the people of the whole country in general and the people of Hanoi in particular - it was the day of taking over the capital, opening a new period of development for Hanoi and the country.
Over the past 70 years, Hanoi has not only been the political and economic capital of the country but also the capital of culture and art - the City for Peace. Hanoi has become an endless source of inspiration for artists to create art, especially in the field of music with many perspectives and feelings of musicians.

Creations in many forms and genres from vocal music to instrumental music, traditional music... like an audio chronicle of the capital Hanoi in both wartime and peacetime.
Every decade, the number of works about Hanoi increases, making Hanoi a special city in the world with many works that not only bear a strong historical mark but also are rich and colorful sound paintings about an ancient, elegant, sacred and splendid Hanoi, a place where the soul of mountains and rivers is calm and has a special place in the heart of every Vietnamese person, whether at home or abroad.

As the conductor of the concert, Meritorious Artist Kim Xuan Hieu said: “In the atmosphere of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, I and the singers and artists of the Vietnam Symphony Orchestra all feel extremely honored and proud to be invited by the Ho Guom Theater to perform in the Concert program “Lighting up the Faith”.
The program has works that were played along with the footsteps of soldiers returning to the capital on the day of the takeover, and there are also works written in a later period. The works depict a part of history as well as praise the peace of a splendid and elegant Hanoi. Artist Duc Tung shared: “I feel very honored to perform in the grand concert celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital. The artists and I have practiced seriously and diligently to bring the audience the most perfect performances. I am very lucky to receive dedicated guidance from conductor Kim Xuan Hieu and colleagues to perform two songs, “October Emotions” and “Autumn Hanoi”.
As for the work “Emotions of October”, when performed, it reminded me of the love for my homeland and country with its heroic melody and the image of the soldiers who sacrificed to protect the Fatherland with pride. As for “Hanoi in Autumn”, it conveys a message about the love of life and the very unique beauty of Hanoi with its gentle, profound autumn."
Right from the early period of modern music, compositions about Hanoi reflected the fighting life and brave spirit of the people of the capital with many different colors. Besides works in the style of chamber music and classical music, compositions exploiting traditional music materials are also of interest to musicians. Particularly, compositions about Hanoi in the style of light music (popular music) have hundreds, thousands of works with many languages, styles, and diverse and rich writing styles, and each generation of artists has their own feelings when performing songs that have become familiar to music lovers at home and abroad.

In addition to songs about Hanoi, the program also includes works praising the beauty of the homeland, evoking national pride. Singer Tran Trang shared: “The two songs I performed, “Tieng hat gioi rung Pac Bo” and “Troi Ha Noi xanh” are works that have stood the test of time, left a mark in the subconscious of the audience, and have been associated with the names of previous artists.
As the next generation, I myself have been trained and studied systematically, so I will apply vocal techniques to my works in a subtle but also flexible and soft way.
I had to study how to sing so that the songs still carry the soul of the nation, but at the same time also carry the breath of the times. Autumn in Hanoi is an extremely beautiful moment of changing seasons and brings me a lot of emotions.
I choose a semi-classical singing style but will bring my own personality and creativity to the songs. For example, artists often take a breath after each beat of music, but I will not take a breath and sing immediately to keep the full breath of emotion, making the song more soulful.

Audience member Nguyen Van Hung (63 years old) expressed his emotion: “For our generation, when listening to the immortal melodies praising the homeland, the emotions of the golden age of the nation surge up again, as if bringing me back to many memories and deep pride. Those were difficult days, with loss and sacrifice, but also filled with patriotism.
When “Melody of the Fatherland” resounds, my heart cannot help but reminisce about the youth who once devoted themselves to the Fatherland. Especially on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, those melodies become even more sacred, adding hope and faith to the next generation, so that they can preserve and promote the values that were entrusted with the blood and bones of the previous generation.”
