Just like that, over the past few decades, the restaurant has become a familiar destination for ordinary workers and diners who love the rustic, sophisticated flavor of the Northern-born owner's vermicelli soup.
Sell because of… "passion"
Early in the morning, the pot of vermicelli soup at Mrs. Ca's restaurant already smells fragrant along Truong Minh Ky Street (Ward 13, Go Vap District). Although it is called a restaurant, there is only one long table, where customers always sit full, eating and chatting together.
Mrs. Ca's pot of vermicelli soup with crab fills the small street with its aroma.
The owner is busy, constantly making dishes for customers to eat in as well as take away. Having been in business for decades, since getting married and moving here, Mrs. Ca said she is so used to this job that she doesn’t feel confused when there are many customers. Furthermore, most of the customers here are neighbors, residents on this street, so everyone is easy-going and willing to wait.
This restaurant is famous for selling crab noodle soup for only 10,000 VND/bowl, which many customers jokingly call the "cheapest crab noodle soup restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City". In addition, the restaurant opens at 6:30 am, because there are many customers coming to support, so it usually sells out after 1 hour, around 7:30 am, and those who come late may have to go home hungry.
“Why are you selling it for 10,000 VND?”, the owner smiled and replied: “10,000 VND has only increased for about a year. Before that it was 7,000 VND, before that it was 5,000 VND. I sell it cheap so that poor workers can have a full breakfast. It’s cheap but made with care, clean and delicious, not cheap so you can cook whatever you want.”
Each bowl of noodles costs 10,000 VND.

The owner said that, of course, with that price, she also made a profit. She saved that profit for her daily grocery shopping. But more importantly, the owner said that this vermicelli soup shop helped her find joy in life when she could gather together every day to cook breakfast for diners from near and far, and see the meaning of still working and making money in her old age.
Mrs. Ca, Owner
"Mrs. Ca's restaurant is the best!"
During more than half an hour at the restaurant, I was surprised when customers kept coming, the owner seemed to not have a single minute to rest. Her vermicelli soup with crab soup was simple, just vermicelli with some boiled water spinach, then the owner put the broth in the bowl with tofu, dried shrimp, crab soup...
The bowl of noodles looks simple, but fragrant, just right for a breakfast to start a new day. Mrs. Vuong (60 years old) also enjoyed noodles at Mrs. Ca's shop this morning as usual.
Rich broth, eye-catching color.
The customer said she has been eating here for decades, ever since the owner opened the store. Because the price is so "affordable" and the noodles are delicious, she comes here every morning to eat. "The noodles here are very simple, without much sausage or meat.
"You get what you pay for. I'm afraid of gaining weight, and I eat light and moderate breakfasts, so eating noodles here is the most reasonable. Ba Ca's restaurant is the best," Ms. Vuong confided, adding that as long as the owner is still selling, she will continue to support her.
Hearing the customer say that, the owner also smiled and added that because the dish is simple, many of her customers even bring spring rolls and other dishes from home to add to the noodle bowl. What she is most proud of in her dish is the rich flavor of the noodles, suitable for the customer's taste.
Usually, the shop sells out in 1 hour.
At 7:30, Mrs. Ca’s pot of broth gradually ran out. Small business, cheap prices, the owner is still happy because everything is suitable for her daily life. The peaceful Truong Minh Ky street is still the same every day, fragrant with Mrs. Ca’s vermicelli soup…
