"This is the first time that Cambodia, a tropical and hot country, has a sports team participating in the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China," said NOCC Secretary General Vath Chamroeun.
Mr. Chamroeun said the delegation's participation is in line with the policy and vision of the International Olympic Committee, which encourages countries and regions with hot weather or without snow or ice to participate in the Asian Winter Games.
He also added that Cambodian athletes had been training in South Korea before the Asian Games.
The 9th Asian Winter Games will be held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China from February 7 to 14. This will be the second time Harbin has hosted the event and the third time China has hosted the Asian Winter Games. More than 1,270 athletes from 34 countries and regions across Asia will participate, making it the largest Games in terms of the number of delegations and athletes participating.
