Female "Saint" shares about offering money for October 1st
Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai - who has been a member of the Church for 5 years and was once the wife of a Group Leader - shudders remembering the days when she had to worry about money for offerings and the 1/10 monthly income contribution, which made her physically weak and sick with stomach problems.
Mai recalls the time when the organization thought she had enough faith, and was taught the lesson “Tie the Belt of Heaven” by people in positions of authority in the Church to gradually manipulate her psychology, leading Mai to believe that offering a 1/10 offering was a blessing.
Mai had to pay 1/10 of the money her parents sent her for her education. When this "rule" is relaxed, students like Mai will not have to pay.
After graduating, Mai had to pay 10% of her income from her part-time job every month, and then pay for the offerings, which also cost about 500,000 VND. Therefore, Mai had to be frugal with all her expenses to cover them.
Meals consisting of only rice with eggplant, or rice with seasoning powder, or simply instant noodles... gradually became more familiar to the girl who was like the "precious gem" of the family.
Mai also said that the “Saints” must go to worship on the Sabbath, Saturday, so they can only work from Monday to Friday. Finding a job is already difficult, so it becomes even more difficult. Add to that the holidays and the need to meet the “quota” of days to preach per week, so many people have to change jobs every 2-3 months because they cannot meet the time limit.
“Because of the strict time requirements, many university graduates still only work at jobs like selling toothbrushes, bread or toilet paper… and wait for the end of the world.
We only paid our 1/10 offering without being asked where the money would go or how it would be spent. They emphasized that it would be blasphemy to ask what the money was for. We were only told that the offering would become the property of our brothers and sisters in Heaven.
Not only that, the Church also emphasized that those who return to Heaven will enjoy the offerings they have made, will build houses in Heaven, and will have rewards such as stars and galaxies..." , Mai confided.
Learning about the 1/10 offering, Mai was taught that she had to give exactly 1/10, and that it was not allowed to give less than the amount, but it was okay to give more than the amount. Even giving 1,000 coins less than the 1/10 offering was stealing God's money. They also pointed out that those who were able to give the 1/10 offering were extremely lucky.
According to Mai, they said that it was allowed to offer, not that they had to offer 1/10, and it was not mandatory, but anyone who did not offer this offering would be condemned to the Lake of Hell, so the "Saints" were all afraid and obediently obeyed.
The 1/10 offering is placed in a white envelope with a life code that begins with the local code (Hanoi code is M06). The life code also includes the date of spiritual rebirth, which is the date of Baptism, becoming a "Saint" of the Church, along with a series of numbers that identify each person.
Each person must remember his or her life code so that when the world ends, when he or she reads that code, he or she will be able to go to Heaven.
In addition to the life code, on the 1/10 offering envelope, write your full name, phone number, Sion (the branch of the church you belong to) and then give the offering to higher-ranking people such as the Area Leader, Group Leader, and Deacon.
During his time as a “Saint”, Nguyen Hai - who had been a member of this Church for 6 years and had reached the position of Group Leader - also lived in social isolation, giving up all worldly desires, as well as relationships, working a moderate job to have enough money to cover living expenses and weekly offerings as well as the 1/10 offering.
According to Hai, 1/10 is the most expensive offering. People in the Church say it is not mandatory, but in fact it is mandatory because the rule is that if you are a “Saint”, you must contribute 1/10 of the money you earn. The person in charge whose faith has been tested will collect that amount from the “Saints” and return it to the organization.
Nguyen Hai gave an example, if a “Saint” earns 20 million VND in a month, he must offer 1/10 of the offering, which is 2 million VND. In addition to that amount, there is a lot of other money, people with this income level, each month, just calculating the offering money, would have to spend about 3 million VND.
Hai was the one who counted the money before it was sent. There were a lot of offerings, and many people in Hanoi participated, so when counted, the offering money in 1 month of 1 Sion could be up to several hundred million dong.
The hidden corners that Nguyen Hai pointed out, the “Saints” or “Preachers” who are absorbed in daily worship, offering sacrifices, studying the Bible… and are comforted by the love of their Parents, the Kingdom of Heaven with its free and easy life will never know. When holding the position of Group Leader in the Church, the deceptions in it gradually revealed.
He said that in Vietnam, the positions in the "Church of God the Mother" are classified as: Saint - Evangelist - Area Leader - Regional Leader - Group Leader - Deacon - Evangelist.
Nguyen Hai joined the Church in 2016 right after graduating from school and was evangelized by his brother, so without any doubts, he quickly became a "Saint" of this organization.
After 6 years of joining the Church, from “Saint”, Hai was assigned to hold the position of Area Leader and then Group Leader managing about 100 people when his faith was tested and became absolute. Hai married a woman who was also in the Church.
According to him, this is a high position, if there is no absolute faith, it will be very dangerous for the organization because they will gradually reveal things that the "Saints" cannot imagine, and for people with normal faith, when they hear it, they will not be able to accept it.
The needle in the bag eventually comes out. The longer he works in the Church and the higher his position, the more the organization's inconsistencies and ambiguities are gradually exposed. Nguyen Hai's faith gradually fades away and returns to zero.
“They taught me not to preach to the disabled, not to share with corrupt people (gangsters) or people with economic difficulties such as beggars, homeless people...
Female officials should not get pregnant. My wife is also not allowed to get pregnant or give birth. If she gets pregnant, they will meet her privately to tell her to have an abortion and threaten that if she keeps the baby, she will no longer be allowed to hold her current position. Those who have taken on the role of Team Leader or higher are very afraid of losing their position,” Hai said.
Hai himself also encountered a case where a group leader's wife became pregnant, but church officials failed to persuade her, the baby was born and both husband and wife lost their positions and were demoted to "Saints".
Hai said that those holding positions from Deacon and above all receive salaries. As for Group Leaders like Hai, although they do not receive salaries, they have enjoyed privileges that no other “Saint” knows or enjoys.
Hai listed that once a month, Group Leaders up to Deacons get to eat well at a restaurant. In Vietnam, the authorities are still cracking down on church gatherings, so eating out is limited, instead, people gather to have a fancy meal at someone's house.
About every 3 months, these people get to travel once. According to research and pictures posted on social media by people with positions in the Church, in early 2023, they organized a spring trip.
“They kept that enjoyment a secret, but they taught the "Saints" not to desire this life, not to travel, to forget about going out and having fun, eating well and dressing well, and to enjoy it in Heaven later.
When I was a Saint, I obeyed those things without any difficulty. But when I became a Group Leader, I saw that those teachings were very wrong and felt sorry for the “Saints” who were risking their lives for this organization every day,” Hai recalled.
Not only that, the Group Leader also receives rent for a spacious and comfortable apartment from the Church. Daily necessities such as tissues, toothpaste, rice, meat, etc., even the smallest items, the Group Leader only needs to list them and send them to the Deacon, and someone will send them to use without worrying about spending money to buy them. However, everything is converted into material things, Group Leaders like Hai do not receive cash or salary.
Hai asked: “Where does the money for this come from? It is the same money that the Saints serve.” Hai even receives gifts from overseas churches regularly such as: tonics, ginseng, clothes, towels, etc.
“That is extremely contradictory. The Deacons or Group Leaders themselves enjoy such things, but when facing the “Saints”, they show themselves to be miserable, poor, lacking in every way, very hypocritical.
I myself am also “fake like that”. Many times I still think, why have I become so degenerate? Before coming here, everyone was good by nature, but the Church has made people like me degenerate. Luckily, I am still sober enough to detect those lies and change,” Mr. Hai said indignantly.
Currently, he and his wife have escaped from that organization by their own will, but have lost almost all relationships and friends and have had to start over almost from scratch.
