A snow village in Chengdu city (Sichuan province, China) has had to apologize for using cotton and soap to make fake snow.
Reuters reported on February 18 that in a post on social network Wechat, the management board of Chengdu Snow Village, a newly opened tourist destination, said that the weather during the recent Lunar New Year was not as cold as expected, so the snow village did not take shape as expected.
To create a snow village scene, the management unit used cotton but it was still ineffective, leaving a bad impression on visitors.
Tourists say the houses in Chengdu Snow Village look like they have thick snow on their roofs, but it's actually layers of cotton piled up.

After receiving reviews and feedback from the online community, the snow village management board has begun cleaning up the “fake snow” made of cotton, and has issued a deep apology, adding that visitors can get a refund. The resort has been closed since the announcement on February 8, despite only being open since late January.
Photos posted on Wechat show large sheets of cotton wool spread across the ground. One user said the promoted images showed what looked like a thick layer of snow covering the houses. However, when visitors got closer, they discovered that the houses were covered in thick layers of cotton wool.
“A snow village without snow. In this era of the internet, tourist attractions must advertise honestly and avoid deception or false advertising, otherwise they will just shoot themselves in the foot,” another user said. Some snow tourism destinations in China are facing challenges from global warming and prolonged heat waves, making it impossible to get the snow they hoped for.
