Currently, the song À Lỗi performed by emerging rapper Double2T (real name Bùi Xuân Trường) is at the top of the YouTube trending list with 10 million views after only 13 days of posting. This was originally a gift from producer Masew (real name Lê Tuấn Anh) to Double2T after his performance in Rap Việt season 3.
It can be said that at present, the phrase "à lêi" has quickly become one of the most mentioned phrases on social platforms. In particular, the TikTok platform has seen a whole trend of transforming into ethnic minority costumes on the background music of À lêi with tens of millions of views.
Therefore, everyone wonders about the meaning of A Loi . It is known that in the Tay language, this phrase means "huh", "oh my god". In the song of the male rapper from the Northwest, A Loi even appears right from the first rap verse.
At the end of the first rap verse "Because I like you so much but you say "ah loi"" with the rhyme "oi", the following verses rhyme well, easy to listen to, easy to remember: "I also intended to solo hip hop with a local guy but that's it/ I put it in the rap verse so you can get both bait and bait/ Your house has a few hills, well I've already calculated them all".
Or the rhyme "ung" in the following passage: "Meeting you in the valley, throwing a ball into the air/ I was busy looking for inspiration in the days of confusion/ I held a crossbow in my hand, aimed at the heart but missed/ But by chance you made me miss you, shot me in the heart without a gun".
In addition to the word "à lêi", the male rapper also used a familiar word in the Tay - Nung language, "noông", which means "em". Because it is a modern song, Double2T is not afraid to use "trendy" words such as "flexing" (showing off), "getting caught"...
Among such youthful lyrics, the male rapper "inserted" profound rap lines: "From the difficult days when the nations were scattered/ To the day when they joined hands to do business, money piled up like a load of goods".
Double2T was very smart in using this "formula" to make a strong impression on the audience. In addition, when mixing, Masew added the sound of a cat flute to make the mix more strange, mysterious but somewhat flexible and melodious.
The song's content is about a boy who falls in love with a girl and he puts all his feelings into the lyrics. Among the current Vietnamese ballads with sad, broken-hearted content, A Loi is considered a song with positive energy, cheerful, "pleasing" to the ear and has highlights.
Fans gave this song many compliments: "This music product has a unique combination of folk melodies with modern style. Each lyric further affirms the true nature of the mountain people. The melody is really catchy!", "I also used to live in the mountains and forests, so listening to it makes me miss it so much! I remember when I was a child, sitting on the motorbike my father took me through the winding mountain passes"...
Singer - musician Tuan Cry shared with Dan Tri reporter: "A few months ago, Double2T sent me the song A Loi . His direction is very interesting, different and not everyone can make this kind of music because Double2T is someone who has been attached to the mountains and forests since childhood.
It would be difficult for someone living in the plains to create such music. Like me in Bac Ninh, in the song "Moi Trau" (Betel Leaf Invitation) with Masew, I am attached to and can sing Quan Ho, so I want to incorporate that folk material into the music. Seeing this bright spot, I also encourage Double2T to participate more in the music community."
Tuan Cry also happily said that the combination of Masew and Double2T is like "fish in water". Both have a thin appearance and gentle, quiet personality.
Previously, the Vietnamese music industry also witnessed the success of the song See Tinh by Hoang Thuy Linh when using folk melodies and was widely accepted by the world public. However, this song did not achieve many awards as expected.
Therefore, it can be said that folk material is still a vast "treasure" for music producers, musicians, and singers to explore and use. However, to honor Vietnamese traditions through lyrics, how to use folk material depends on each person's talent.
