Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs about the visit of the Prime Minister of New Zealand

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is on an official visit to Vietnam to attend the 2nd ASEAN Future Forum. The Prime Minister's visit, which lasts from February 25-28, is of great significance in the context of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand since 1975.

Earlier, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon held talks with General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Currently, the two countries have agreed to upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership, raising bilateral relations to a new level, meeting the aspirations of the people of both countries.

According to Ms. Pham Thu Hang, Vietnam and New Zealand have always maintained visits, high-level contacts and bilateral cooperation mechanisms to promote friendly and effective cooperation between the two countries in many fields.

The two countries' economic, trade and investment cooperation is prominent. Currently, Vietnam is New Zealand's 12th largest trading partner with two-way trade turnover in 2023-2024 reaching 1.3 billion USD.

Regarding development investment projects, New Zealand has 55 investment projects in Vietnam, with a total capital of 208 million USD; Vietnam has 12 investment projects in New Zealand, with a total capital of 44 million USD.

In addition to economic and trade cooperation, the two countries also actively support each other's development in other areas such as education, training, agriculture and labor. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries, especially in green economy and digital transformation. Vietnam considers New Zealand a potential partner to develop this field.

The two countries also actively cooperate in special regional and international forums, especially at the United Nations and ASEAN , contributing to stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also said that this afternoon Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will continue important activities in Ho Chi Minh City.
