Driver's license points deducted, driver not allowed to drive for 6 months

(Dan Tri) - According to a new circular, the Ministry of Public Security stipulates that when a driver's license has all points deducted, the driver is not allowed to drive with that license for at least 6 months. After that, the driver must take a road safety knowledge test.

The Ministry of Public Security has just issued Circular No. 65/2024/TT-BCA regulating the testing of legal knowledge on road traffic order and safety to restore driving license points. The Circular takes effect from January 1, 2025.

Accordingly, the driver's license will have 12 points. During traffic participation, depending on each violation, the driver will be deducted 2-12 points.

In case all points are deducted from the driving license, the driver is not allowed to drive with that license for at least 6 months. After that, the driver must participate in the test of knowledge of the law on road traffic order and safety.

This Circular stipulates that the Traffic Police Department and the Traffic Police Department of the Public Security of the province or centrally-run city are the competent authorities to test legal knowledge on road traffic order and safety.

The test consists of two parts: Test of theoretical knowledge of law on road traffic order and safety conducted according to theoretical test questions to grant driving licenses according to regulations of the Minister of Transport and test of legal knowledge on road traffic order and safety according to simulation of traffic situations on computers according to regulations of the Minister of Transport.

Regarding the testing method, according to the Circular, for the theoretical test of legal knowledge, test takers will take multiple-choice tests on computers using the software to test legal knowledge on road traffic order and safety.

For the simulated legal knowledge test, test takers handle traffic situations simulated on a computer.
