Flu, measles, dengue fever are on the rise in Hanoi

On February 11, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) informed that last week (from January 31 to February 7), Hanoi recorded an increase in cases of measles, flu, and dengue fever.

Regarding measles, last week, the whole city recorded 114 cases of the disease, no deaths; an increase of 60 cases compared to last week (54 cases/0 deaths).

Accumulated from 2025 to present, Hanoi has recorded 327 measles cases in 29/30 districts (except Phuc Tho district), 0 deaths. Measles patients are distributed by age group: 36 cases under 6 months (11%); 44 cases 6-8 months (13%); 35 cases 9-11 months (10%), 64 cases 1-5 years old (19%), 71 cases 6-10 years old (22%), 77 cases > 10 years old (23%).

Hanoi CDC said that this week, the number of measles cases increased compared to the previous week and remained high, mainly in people who had not been vaccinated or had not been fully vaccinated. It is forecasted that the number of measles cases will continue to increase rapidly in the following weeks due to the need to travel and interact during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Also last week, Hanoi recorded 13 cases of dengue fever, 0 deaths; an increase of 4 cases compared to the previous week (09/0). The cumulative year 2025 recorded 137 cases of dengue fever, no deaths; a decrease compared to the same period in 2024 (424/0). Patients were recorded sporadically in 26 districts, towns and cities. During the week, no outbreak was recorded, the cumulative year 2025 recorded 1 outbreak that has ended its operation.

In January, the city recorded 820 cases of influenza, an increase of 51 cases (6%) compared to the same period in 2024. In 2024, Hanoi recorded 7,133 cases of influenza, with no deaths. Patients were recorded year-round in 30/30 districts and towns, with an increasing trend from December to May.

Regarding hand, foot and mouth disease, last week, Hanoi recorded 10 cases, an increase of 1 case compared to the previous week (9 cases). The cumulative year 2025 recorded 64 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, 0 deaths; an increase compared to the same period in 2024 (63/0), patients were recorded sporadically in 20 districts. During the week, no outbreak was recorded, the cumulative year 2025 recorded no outbreak.

During the week, 4 cases of whooping cough were recorded in Ha Dong (2); Dong Da, Soc Son (1); 0 deaths. In 2025, 6 cases and 0 deaths were recorded, an increase compared to the same period in 2024 (2/0).

Other diseases such as: Covid-19, streptococcus suis, meningococcus, tetanus... were not recorded during the week.

In the face of the above situation, Hanoi CDC continues to coordinate with relevant units to strengthen surveillance and detection of patients at decentralized medical facilities and in the community, to promptly investigate and handle cases and outbreaks, and prevent the disease from spreading widely.

In addition, relevant units organize activities to monitor suspected measles rash fever, conduct epidemiological investigations, collect samples for testing of 100% of suspected cases, organize zoning, thoroughly handle areas with patients and outbreaks according to regulations; coordinate the implementation of vaccination in schools as well as review and propagate to parents to have their children fully vaccinated according to regulations.
