Arrested 16 people buying, selling and manufacturing military weapons, seized 11 guns and 1,400 bullets

On December 9, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security, sent a letter of commendation to the Director of the Criminal Police Department for his achievements in coordinating and fighting to arrest 16 subjects who illegally manufactured, traded, transported, and stored military weapons; fraudulently appropriated property; organized gambling and gambling, and prevented professional criminal plots and activities that harmed people's lives and health.

Police seized 11 guns, 1,400 bullets and many other documents and evidence of the case.

The content of the Letter of Commendation clearly stated: The leaders of the Ministry of Public Security were informed that in the past time, with a proactive and determined spirit, the Criminal Police Department has presided over and coordinated with the Representative Office of the Ministry of Public Security in Laos, along with a number of professional units and local police to fight and arrest 16 subjects engaged in the illegal manufacture, purchase, sale, transportation, and storage of military weapons; fraud and appropriation of property; and gambling organization and gambling.

This is an outstanding achievement, demonstrating the intelligence, sharpness in professional skills and high sense of responsibility of the Criminal Police Department in implementing the direction of the Central Public Security Party Committee and the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security on preventing and combating organized crime, transnational crime, and crimes using weapons and supporting tools to commit crimes.

The results of the special project have reflected the close and effective coordination between the professional units of the Ministry and the local police; at the same time, deterring and preventing crime, strengthening the people's trust in the People's Police force.

On behalf of the Central Public Security Party Committee and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long acknowledged and commended the achievements of the officers and soldiers.

The Deputy Minister of Public Security requested the Criminal Police Department to continue to coordinate with the police of relevant units and localities to investigate and expand the case, consolidate documents and evidence to strictly handle the subjects according to the provisions of the law.

Previously, the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security announced the arrest of Pham Duc Binh (Binh "Kiem", from Quang Ninh). Binh "Kiem" is a notorious gangster with many criminal records, and was once the leader of an especially dangerous criminal gang. After being released from prison in April, Binh "Kiem" lured, enticed, and gathered his followers to connect with fellow inmates and criminals to form a gang.

Binh contacted Nguyen Tuan An (in Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province; has 4 criminal records in Vietnam and one criminal record in Laos) to buy an AK gun and bullets and then ship them back to Vietnam.

After dismantling this gang, authorities seized 3 AK guns, 8 military pistols of various types, 1,400 bullets, 5 ammunition boxes, 5 bulletproof vests, drugs and many related objects and documents.

The Ministry of Public Security has initiated criminal proceedings against 16 defendants for the crimes of manufacturing, trading, transporting, and illegally storing military weapons; Fraudulent appropriation of property; Organizing gambling; Gambling; Failure to report crimes; and Illegal possession of narcotics.
