Although the project to display artifacts has not been completed, Hanoi still wants to charge admission fees to the Hanoi Museum in the near future.

Accordingly, it is expected that from January 1, 2025, the city will collect entrance fees for many relics and cultural works in Hoan Kiem District and Hanoi Museum on Pham Hung Street (Nam Tu Liem District).

Previously, presenting the draft resolution, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Do Dinh Hong said that from 2010 to June 2024, the museum has served more than 1.5 million visitors. On average, each year it welcomes about 110,000 visitors...

In recent years, the museum has truly become a new destination attracting young people to experience and visit.

According to Mr. Hong, with the goal of further improving thematic exhibition activities in both quantity and quality under the condition that the city budget has been cut over the years, the museum's proposal to collect fees is very necessary.

"Collecting fees will help reduce the budget burden and create revenue for the unit to increase its autonomy rate according to the policy of the Central Government and the city for public service units," said Mr. Hong.

Director of Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Do Dinh Hong presented a report on the afternoon of December 10.

Museum entrance fee 50,000 VND/person

The fee for the Hanoi Museum is 50,000 VND/visitor, no fee on International Museum Day (May 18) and Cultural Heritage Day (November 23); free for people under 16 years old, people with special disabilities. Particularly, people with severe disabilities, the elderly, students from 16 years old and up, people with revolutionary contributions... will have their fees reduced by 50%. The expected fee collection period is from January 1, 2025.

Commenting on the draft resolution, the Culture and Society Committee requested the Hanoi People's Committee to clarify whether the application of fees to museums from January 1, 2025 is really appropriate, when this museum has not yet completed the project to display artifacts.

In its explanatory report, the Hanoi People's Committee said that the organization of display, exhibition and experience spaces is to serve the people. However, in order to raise public awareness when visiting, the fee collection will reflect the value of the cost and the attitude of visitors in using their time to research and learn about the history of the capital.

The Hanoi Museum project consists of two phases, of which phase 1 is the building completed in 2010 with a total investment of 2,300 billion VND. Phase 2 is the content of exhibiting artifacts, estimated at about 800 billion VND, and has not been completed yet.
