On the afternoon of October 9, Koinu, the fourth storm in the East Sea, weakened into a tropical depression and will dissipate over Hainan Island (China) in the next few hours.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 7 p.m., the center of the tropical depression was in the sea south of Guangdong province (China), with the strongest wind speed of 61 km/h, level 6-7, gusting to level 9.

In the coming hours, the tropical depression will move southwest at a speed of 15 km/h and weaken into a low pressure area over Hainan Island.

In the next 12 hours, the northwestern sea of the northern East Sea will have strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 9. Waves will be 1-2 m high, and waves will be 2-4 m high near the center of the tropical depression. From the morning of October 10, waves in the Gulf of Tonkin will be 2-3 m high.

Japan's Meteorological Agency has stopped its forecast for Typhoon Koinu, while Hong Kong's Meteorological Agency said the tropical depression will dissipate in the coming hours before hitting Hainan Island.

Meteorologists explained that Koinu sometimes strengthened and then quickly weakened due to interactions with cold air from the north. Initially, Koinu was forecast to dissipate in the northern East Sea on October 8, but then suddenly strengthened due to the cold air coming in late.

Today, the storm weakened rapidly, ending its life cycle a day earlier than forecast due to interaction with cold air. Tonight, this air mass will move down to the Northeast, then to the North Central and Northwest regions, pulling the average daily temperature down to below 26 degrees Celsius in the plains and below 15 degrees Celsius in the mountains. Provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue will experience heavy rain from October 10-13.

The meteorological agency predicts that in October there will be 1-2 storms and tropical depressions affecting mainland Vietnam.
