Balancing goods sources, ensuring service to people

On December 18, information from the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province said that the province has just issued Plan No. 315/KH-UBND on preparing goods, ensuring supply and demand balance, stabilizing the market at the end of 2024 and the Lunar New Year 2025 in the province.

Accordingly, the Plan is implemented to proactively balance supply and demand of essential goods to serve people's consumption needs; prevent shortages of goods, leading to sudden price increases; ensure product quality and food hygiene and safety.

At the same time, mobilize units and individuals who reserve goods, which are enterprises and establishments trading essential goods, to regulate the market in terms of price, quantity, quality of goods and participate in market stabilization work in the province. At the same time, stabilize market prices, especially essential goods, to meet the production and consumption needs of the people in the months before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025.

Along with that, raise awareness and responsibility of enterprises in the province towards the community and society, support management agencies to proactively control and regulate part of the prices of essential goods based on the participation of enterprises in creating reserve sources of goods.

According to forecasts, this year, the shopping demand for the end of the year and Tet holiday of people in Ba Ria - Vung Tau will increase compared to the same period last year. It is estimated that the total value of goods reserved for Tet in the whole province will reach about 1,503 billion VND (an increase of about 10% compared to Tet in 2024). Reserved goods focus on essential goods such as rice, meat, shrimp, fish, spices, processed foods (ham, sausage, etc.), frozen packaged foods, etc.

The supply of goods and distribution channels for the end of 2024 and the Lunar New Year 2025 are mainly concentrated in large distribution enterprises such as supermarkets, shopping malls, large convenience stores and traditional markets in the province.

On the basis of balancing from self-produced and supplied sources in the province, the supply sources through the distribution system into the province, such as for food, ensure sufficient supply, meet consumer demand, but rice prices at the end of 2024 and Lunar New Year 2025 tend to increase slightly; 70% of rice is purchased from the Western provinces, Binh Thuan; 30% is self-balanced in the province.

For livestock, poultry and seafood products: Pork, beef, chicken, seafood of all kinds, 81% is purchased in the province; 19% is purchased from other provinces (Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Tien Giang, Binh Dinh, Binh Thuan...).

Industrial, packaged, processed food: Mainly purchased from factories and large manufacturing companies in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong.

Vegetables and fruits of all kinds: About 40% are self-supplied from districts in the province (including clean vegetable production units); 50% are purchased from Da Lat and about 10% are purchased from the North (cabbage, kohlrabi, etc.).

Alcoholic beverages and other beverages: Purchased mainly from distributors in major provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong... and about 10% self-supplied from small retail establishments in cities, districts, and towns.

In that situation, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Finance, the Market Management Department, the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to monitor the supply and demand of goods, especially essential goods in the province at the end of the year. Thereby, proactively propose to the Provincial People's Committee measures to ensure balance of supply and demand, stabilize the market, avoid shortages, disruptions in goods sources, sudden price increases; deploy participation in supply and demand connection programs to introduce regional specialties, support the consumption of local products, and create sources of goods for Tet.
