Following the request of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau has now proposed to the Government to build a 41km expressway connecting Long Thanh airport and Ho Tram.
On March 9, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province issued a document proposing to the Government to implement the construction of an expressway connecting Long Thanh airport to Ho Tram with a total investment of 17,000 billion VND.
Long Thanh Airport has now taken shape with projects accelerating progress.
This 41km long expressway starts at the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4 section in Chau Duc district and ends at the Vung Tau - Binh Thuan coastal road in Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. This is a complete 4-lane urban expressway (planned to have 6 lanes in the future), with a design speed of 100km/h.
The total investment for the expressway is expected to be about 17,000 billion VND, of which the cost of site clearance is 4,500 billion VND.
The People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province proposed to include this expressway in the provincial planning and remove Go Gang airport from the planning of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Ho Tram is currently considered a luxury resort paradise in the South.
In addition, the leaders of Ba Ria - Vung Tau also proposed to convert the purpose of forest land use for the last 6.4km of the planned route and appoint investors to participate in the project implementation under the PPP method.
According to local leaders, when Long Thanh airport comes into operation, travel from the Southeast and Southwest provinces as well as the tourist areas of Long Hai, Phuoc Hai, and Ho Tram to the airport will mainly be via existing routes, which pass through many densely populated areas, urban areas, and have high traffic volume. This limits travel speed and makes it difficult to control travel time due to high vehicle density and mixed exploitation.
Therefore, investing in a highway directly connecting Long Thanh airport with Ho Tram is extremely necessary, contributing to the completion of the foreign transport network, while creating a strong driving force for the tourism and service industry towards international standards. Because currently, the Ho Tram area, which is known as the southern coastal tourism paradise, if connected to the super Long Thanh airport by a large road, will help tourism here reach a new level and welcome more visitors.
Previously, at a working session with Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, Dong Nai province and related units at the end of 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directly directed the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) to lead Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dong Nai provinces to study and deploy many types of transportation connecting directly to Long Thanh airport.
Many major routes are now connecting to Ho Tram, including provincial road 994.
In particular, the Prime Minister requested Ba Ria - Vung Tau to quickly research and soon deploy a direct road connecting Ho Tram (Xuyen Moc district) to Long Thanh airport. The purpose is to maximize the development of this high-class tourist and resort land.
According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Ho Tram is developing, is the place where major events take place, and has great potential for tourism... Therefore, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is proactively and urgently completing traffic projects connecting to Long Thanh airport.
Research the fastest route connecting directly from Ho Tram to Long Thanh airport to develop the Ho Tram area more effectively.
In terms of geographical location, Ho Tram is about 130km from Ho Chi Minh City and about 80 - 130km from Dong Nai and Binh Duong, next to Binh Thuan province. Long Thanh airport is about 50km from Ho Tram as the crow flies and about 70 - 80km by detour.
Currently, localities are implementing many traffic routes such as: Building new ones such as the Vung Tau - Binh Thuan coastal road, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway...
