Among them, many have not been able to return to their hometown for decades. This is not only a valuable material gift, but also a sharing and encouragement to help them feel more confident in life.

Tears welling up as I hold the ticket home

For four consecutive years, unable to return home to reunite with his family during Tet due to financial difficulties, Mr. Vo Van Tu (Ward 2, Binh Chieu Ward, Thu Duc City) always feels pain in his heart every time spring comes.

Mr. Vo Van Tu was moved to tears with 4 free tickets to go home for Tet.

He and his wife have two children, the older one is in college, the younger one is in 7th grade. Previously, he worked as a worker in Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, earning just enough to support his family.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, he lost his job and had to do many odd jobs. The temporary and unstable jobs made his family always in need. The family's main income was his wife's meager salary as a factory worker.

“I asked for a bus ticket to Nghe An for the upcoming Tet holiday, which is 2,400,000 VND/person. The round trip ticket for 4 people is about 19 million, not including food and other expenses. We cannot afford it,” said Mr. Tu.

He thought he would have to celebrate Tet away from home for another year, but his family was unexpectedly happy when the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Workers Support Center gave him 4 free Tet bus tickets to Nghe An.

Holding 4 tickets in his hand, Mr. Tu had tears in his eyes: "The whole family couldn't sleep because they were so happy. Both sides of the family were very happy when they heard the news."

Similarly, Ms. Pham Thi Mo (49 years old, garment worker at Dat Viet Company, Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, District 7) also choked up when holding the free ticket in her hand.

“It’s been a dozen years since I’ve been home for Tet, my grandchild is 7 years old but has never met his grandparents. I’m so happy, finally I get to see my grandchild,” Ms. Mo said emotionally.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai, from Nghe An, works as a worker at Amata Industrial Park. She said that she has not returned to her hometown for many years.

This year, she registered with the union for support, but did not expect her family to receive tickets. “Honestly, I held the tickets but could not believe it was true,” Ms. Hoai said, tearfully.

Ms. Mai Thi Hoa (from Ha Tinh, worker at Long Binh Industrial Park) was also lucky to receive a charity ticket.

“I have been feeling restless all month. I hope that in the coming years, more meaningful tickets will reach people in difficult circumstances like me,” said Ms. Hoa.

Ease your hardship with the "0 dong" bus ride

Last week, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh, from Anh Son, Nghe An, excitedly called his parents to inform them that he would be coming home to celebrate Tet with his family this year.

Mr. Linh works at TNG Company in Thai Nguyen. Because his house is far away and travel is expensive, he and some fellow countrymen decided to stay at the boarding house during the 2024 Giap Thin New Year.

Students from universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City on a free bus to return home to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024. This year, thousands of free bus tickets will be sent to workers and students far from home in difficult circumstances.

Since the beginning of January, TNG Company announced a support program to bring workers away from home to celebrate Tet, so Mr. Linh quickly registered.

Along with him, hundreds of workers from Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh have registered for support.

Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Luong in Huong Son, Ha Tinh said that instead of having to travel back to her hometown on her own, this year she and some colleagues will receive transportation support from Youngone Bac Giang Company Limited: “Traveling from Bac Giang to Ha Tinh is very far, not to mention that during Tet, every bus is full of passengers.

With a meager worker's salary, I was forced to get on crowded buses, with tickets twice as expensive as usual.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dung and some fellow Thanh Hoa natives at Tenma Vietnam Co., Ltd., Hanoi Branch (Noi Bai Industrial Park) often pool money to rent private cars to return home, avoiding having to jostle and wait for buses.

However, knowing about the program to support workers returning home for Tet at Noi Bai Industrial Park, he registered at the beginning of the month with the company's union.

Door to door delivery, door to door pickup

Organizing and supporting transportation for cadres, workers and laborers to return to their hometowns every Tet holiday has been launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to grassroots unions, becoming a movement in provinces and cities with many export processing zones and industrial parks.

"On the occasion of Tet At Ty 2025, there will be thousands of trips by businesses across the country in coordination with grassroots unions to take workers home and welcome them back to work after Tet," said Mr. Pham Quang Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi City Labor Federation.

From January 24 to 26, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Union and other units in the group will arrange 291 buses to take 9,774 workers and their relatives home to celebrate Tet.

The departure point of nearly 300 buses is from Quang Ninh to the Northern and Central provinces. On February 2 (the 5th day of the first lunar month), the buses will go to each house to pick up workers to return to the mining area to work.

Samsung Group also plans to arrange more than 80 cars to take about 4,000 officials, employees and laborers from Thai Nguyen back to their hometowns. The workers who registered to receive support are mainly from Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

According to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Federation of Labor, along with Samsung, businesses such as Masan Group, Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Complex, Sunny Opotech Vietnam Co., Ltd., TNG Company... all arranged vehicles to support workers returning home for Tet, starting from January 25.

The buses will start on the morning of December 26 (January 25).

In addition to this program, the center also organizes many caring activities and a series of Tet activities at workers' accommodation and boarding houses.

Especially for workers in the West, the center organizes motorbike maintenance and gives gifts so that everyone can return home by motorbike safely and meaningfully.

Meanwhile, Chairwoman of Dong Nai Province Labor Federation Nguyen Thi Nhu Y said that this year the Union has many more activities to take care of Tet such as union Tet market, giving gifts, and sharing difficulties with workers.

In Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to the “Spring Bus Trip”, the “Love Ticket” program will also give away 3,225 bus tickets to workers; and 1,000 Tet lucky money packages to accompanying workers’ children.

The city's civil servant union also selected and awarded 37 train tickets to union members and workers with outstanding achievements, with a total cost of about 3.8 billion VND.

At Ho Chi Minh City National University and many colleges and universities in Ho Chi Minh City, there are also programs to give away free bus tickets, bringing thousands of students back to their hometowns.

In addition, other caring activities are also promoted by Ho Chi Minh City during the 2025 Tet holiday. Trains will depart from Bien Hoa station to Vinh station, Thanh Hoa station and Hanoi station. Expected time is December 24, 25, 26 and 27 (from January 23 to 26, 2025).

To receive train and plane tickets, workers need to meet the following conditions: have permanent residence in provinces from Nghe An to the North, have worked in Dong Nai for 2 years or more, and priority is given to those in difficult circumstances such as serious illness or work-related accidents.

With bus tickets, the beneficiaries are workers in difficult circumstances who cannot return home for Tet, regardless of which province or city they are working in. The form of support can be free bus tickets or subsidized fares for workers to be proactive.
