Increase yield and value of salt grains

The Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025 is an important event to honor the traditional salt production industry, while creating conditions to promote trade, investment and promote cultural values associated with the Vietnamese salt industry.

This is an opportunity for businesses, cooperatives, experts and investors to connect and seek cooperation opportunities for sustainable development of the Vietnamese salt industry. The event is expected to attract the participation of hundreds of units operating in the field of salt production, processing and trading, contributing to increasing product value and expanding domestic and foreign consumption markets.

Vietnam has a long history of salt production, with many famous production areas such as Bac Lieu, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Nam Dinh... In particular, Bac Lieu is one of the localities with the largest salt production area in the Mekong Delta, playing an important role in the country's salt supply chain. With favorable natural conditions, abundant resources and long-standing skills of salt workers, Bac Lieu salt is highly appreciated for its quality and has strong development potential. The Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025 will recreate traditional salt production processes, introduce typical salt products and honor those who have been attached to the profession for many generations.

In addition to displaying refined salt products, organic salt, medicinal salt..., the event also helps raise awareness about the application of modern technology in production, to increase productivity, ensure quality and meet the increasing demands of the market.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment), the traditional salt production model brings in an average income of about 47.6 million VND/ha, after deducting costs, the profit reaches about 28.4 million VND/ha.

Meanwhile, the model of producing salt on canvas reached an output of 74 tons/ha, generating an income of more than VND89 million/ha and a profit of about VND49.5 million/ha. However, the price of salt on the market is still unstable, many salt farmers are facing a situation of falling salt prices and difficulty in selling. In particular, deeply processed salt products such as refined salt, mineral salt or products combined with tourism have not developed strongly, causing the added value of the salt industry to not be fully exploited.

The Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025 will be an opportunity for managers, experts and businesses to discuss solutions to enhance the value of the salt industry, especially the application of new technology in production and processing.

Opportunity to connect and promote exports

Within the framework of the event, the Trade Promotion Fair for the Collective Economic Sector and Cooperatives - Bac Lieu 2025 will take place from March 6 to March 8, 2025, with the gathering of about 100 booths of cooperatives and enterprises.

The fair will display a variety of products such as refined salt, OCOP products from salt, salt products combined with tourism, modern salt processing equipment and technology. This is not only an opportunity to promote the brand but also creates opportunities for cooperatives to participate in the value chain of salt production and consumption in a modern and sustainable way.

Through trade activities, seminars and discussions, cooperatives and businesses can learn from experience, access advanced technology and expand their business models. In particular, the fair will introduce tourism models combined with salt production, helping to increase product value and increase income for salt farmers. Developing experiential tourism associated with salt production not only creates additional revenue but also helps to enhance the recognition of Vietnamese salt brands in domestic and international markets.

In addition, the fair is also an opportunity for units to approach processing enterprises, organize technical and financial support, thereby enhancing production capacity, improving product quality, aiming at the goal of exporting Vietnamese salt to international markets.

One of the important goals of the Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025 is to connect markets, promote consumption and expand the export of Vietnamese salt. Currently, Vietnamese salt products are mainly consumed domestically, but the export potential is still very large, especially mineral salt products, clean sea salt and organic salt.

Markets such as Japan, Korea, the US and Europe have high demand for quality salt products that meet food safety standards. However, to be able to access these markets, Vietnamese salt needs to improve production processes, invest in deep processing and enhance product preservation capacity.

At the trade promotion fair, businesses will have the opportunity to meet domestic and foreign partners, learn about export requirements, and connect with technical and financial support organizations to enhance production capacity and improve product quality. Conference and seminar activities will also focus on promoting investment in salt preservation and processing systems according to international standards, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese salt in the global market.

Linking tourism with salt production

In addition to trade and investment activities, the Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025 is also an opportunity to promote local culture, cuisine and tourism. Visitors to the event will directly experience the traditional salt making process, visit vast salt fields and learn about the history of the salt industry in Vietnam.

Tourism programs that combine salt making experiences will help visitors gain a more comprehensive view of the value of the salt industry. Food stalls will also introduce specialty dishes made from salt, helping to raise awareness of the importance of this product in daily life.

In addition, visitors can enjoy salt products such as mineral salt, medicinal salt, culinary salt and salt-based dishes. The program also includes cultural and artistic activities honoring the salt industry, including a competition for talented salt workers, folk performances and an exhibition of documents on the history of Vietnam's salt industry. The festival aims to develop a community tourism model associated with salt villages, contributing to preserving traditional values and increasing income for salt workers.

Bac Lieu is not only famous for its salt industry but also has many attractive tourist destinations such as Bac Lieu Prince's House, Ho Nam Eco-tourism Area, Wind Power Field... Combining festivals with experiential tourism programs will help the locality attract more tourists, creating momentum for socio-economic development.

The Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025 is not only an important cultural event but also an opportunity for the Vietnamese salt industry to move to a more modern and sustainable development stage. With the participation of hundreds of salt production, processing and trading units, this event promises to create a driving force to promote the salt industry to develop towards high quality, sustainability and greater added value.
