On October 12, the People's Committee of District 3 (HCMC) issued a quick report on the suspected poisoning of 6 students after eating stir-fried rice noodles at Le Quy Don High School.
Specifically, on October 10, there were a total of 1,393 meals including 1,348 stir-fried rice noodles with grilled spring rolls, grilled meat, chive soup, 26 vegetarian meals, and 19 porridge meals provided for students' lunch.
Of these, a total of 6/1,348 cases who ate fried rice noodles had symptoms of stomachache and vomiting 2 hours and 30 minutes after having lunch at school.
These meals are provided by Ngoc Hue Trading - Service Company Limited, address 178/13 Co Giang, Co Giang Ward, District 1.
The facility has a certificate of registration of operation issued by the Department of Planning and Investment of Ho Chi Minh City in 2017.
Immediately after receiving the information, District 3 Health Department coordinated with District 3 Health Center and Vo Thi Sau Ward Health Station to go to the scene to investigate the epidemic and seal the food samples, currently awaiting test results.
According to the report, out of 6 students with symptoms of digestive disorders, one student had a stomachache and was taken to the medical room and sent home.
The remaining 5 students were admitted to Saigon General Hospital at 3:00 p.m. on October 10 and were discharged at 7:00 p.m. the same day.
During their hospitalization, the school, the representative of the catering company, and the doctors and nurses took good care of them, visited them, and encouraged them. Currently, all of their health is stable.
District 3 People's Committee continues to coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety to monitor, inspect, and handle according to regulations (if any) when there are test results.
Also according to the report, in 2024, District 3 Health Department coordinated with the Department of Food Safety, Department of Education and Training... to organize training to ensure food safety and operate a self-inspection system for schools with canteens.
In September 2024 alone, 44 schools were inspected. We are currently coordinating with the Department of Food Safety to continue inspecting the canteens and collective kitchens of the remaining schools.
Investigating the cause of suspected food poisoning
Previously, on October 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health reported that at Le Quy Don High School, District 3, 6 cases of students with symptoms of abdominal pain, 2 of which showed signs of vomiting, were recorded after meals at the school.
Immediately after receiving the information, the City Center for Disease Control urgently coordinated with District 3 Medical Center to conduct epidemiological investigation, assess risks and intervene according to the process of handling food poisoning cases.
Further interventions will be implemented after specific investigation results are available.
