The Vietnam Center for Doping and Sports Medicine has just announced the penalties for Vietnamese athletes who were caught doping at the 31st SEA Games. These athletes have had their competition records erased and their medals won at the recent Games stripped. In addition, the athletes have been banned from competing for a period of time.
The Vietnamese sports delegation had 5 athletes involved in doping at the Games a year ago: Hoang Thi Ngoc (4x400m relay gold medal), Khuat Phuong Anh (800m gold medal, 1,500m silver medal), Le Ngoc Phuc (400m silver medal, 4x400m relay silver medal), Quach Thi Lan (400m hurdles gold medal, 4x400m relay gold medal, 400m bronze medal), Vu Thi Ngoc Ha (long jump gold medal, triple jump silver medal).
Quach Thi Lan was banned from competing for 18 months.

The Vietnamese Sports Delegation lost two gold medals in the women's 4x400m relay and the women's 800m. In the women's long jump and 400m hurdles, the gold medals were awarded to the runners-up, also representing the Vietnamese delegation (Bui Thi Thu Thao in the long jump and Nguyen Thi Huyen in the 400m hurdles).
Explaining the reason for testing positive for banned substances, athlete Quach Thi Lan said: " During training (preparing for SEA Games 31 - PV), I did not use any drugs. During the competition, I only took one packet of drugs to be more alert. Before using it, I asked my doctor about the ingredients and was allowed to use it.
However, this is a new drug on the market so we have not anticipated everything. We all use the same type so we are all doping ."
