According to iTechSpot , VF Corp's filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on December 15 shows that "threat actors" were able to steal undisclosed personal customer data through "encryption of certain IT systems."
VF Corp owns many famous brands Vans, Supreme and The North Face
Fortunately, VF Corp. assured that no social security numbers, bank account information, or payment card information were included in the stolen data, as the company does not store them in its data warehouse. Customer passwords are also said to be safe. VF Corp. is still investigating the incident to protect itself from similar attacks in the future.
The ALPHV ransomware group, also known as BlackCat, later claimed responsibility for the attack. Last September, a subgroup of ALPHV launched a ransomware attack on MGM casinos that disrupted operations for more than a month. MGM estimated the attack cost its casinos $100 million.
The group then broke into another casino, Caesars Palace, just a week after the MGM incident. The breach allowed the hackers to steal driver’s licenses and social security numbers from a significant number of members in Caesars’ database. Reports later revealed that the casino had agreed to pay the hackers to avoid the data breach.
