National Tourism Year 2024 has the theme "Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experience" with 169 major events taking place across provinces and cities.
At a press conference on the afternoon of January 21, a representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) said that Dien Bien was chosen to host the National Tourism Year 2024. The opening and closing ceremonies have the theme "Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experience", associated with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024). During the 19 years of organization, each year the MOCST will select a province or city to host the event.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy said that there are 169 events and festivals held throughout the year, of which 13 are national events chaired by the Ministry, and Dien Bien organizes 28 events. The remaining 128 festivals and activities are hosted by 33 provinces and centrally-run cities.
The highlight of the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 is the opening ceremony associated with the Ban Flower Festival taking place on March 16 at 7/5 Square, Dien Bien Phu City; the art program and high-altitude fireworks display on the evening of May 6; and the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory celebration on the morning of May 7.
National Tourism Year 2024 is expected to contribute to the economic, social and tourism development of Dien Bien, creating conditions to attract human resources for investment and development, building new products, and creating momentum for tourism development in the following years, according to Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration Ha Van Sieu.
Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee Vu A Bang expects that in 2024 the locality will welcome 1.3 million tourists, an increase of 20% compared to 2023. Total tourism revenue this year is estimated at 2,200 billion VND, an increase of 1.3 times compared to last year.
Dien Bien is the only province in Vietnam that shares a border with Laos and China, with an area of nearly 10,000 km2. Currently, Dien Bien is also the only province in the Northwest with an airport connecting to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, convenient for tourists to visit and explore.
