(CLO) The 2025 Ban Flower Festival and the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival of Dien Bien Province's Ethnic Groups, held from March 13 to March 16, is not only an important cultural, sports and tourism event, but also a symbol of the cultural identity of Dien Bien land and people.
The Ban Flower Festival is a unique cultural event of Dien Bien province, held annually in March, when the flowers bloom throughout the Northwest mountains. This is not only an occasion to honor the beauty of the flower symbolizing the mountainous region but also an opportunity to promote ethnic culture and boost local tourism.
Ban flowers, a flower associated with the mountains and forests of the Northwest, have long been part of the cultural and spiritual life of the ethnic groups here. According to legend, Ban flowers are associated with the tragic love story of Ban and Khum, two people who loved each other but were forbidden by strict etiquette. Ban transformed into pure white flowers, symbolizing faithful and noble love.
The Ban Flower Festival is not only an occasion to commemorate that romantic love story but also to pray for a year of favorable weather, bountiful harvests and a prosperous life. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for Dien Bien people to introduce to domestic and foreign tourists the diverse cultural beauty of ethnic minorities in the region.
The 2025 Ban Flower Festival and the 8th Dien Bien Province Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival are also practical activities to celebrate major national and international holidays. At the same time, it continues to build and develop Dien Bien culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development.
Accordingly, the 2025 Ban Flower Festival and the 8th Dien Bien Provincial Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival will be held from March 13 to March 16, 2025 in Dien Bien Phu City and Dien Bien District.
The opening ceremony will take place from 19:30 to 21:41, March 14, 2025 (Friday) at 7/5 Square, Dien Bien Phu City or the provincial stadium. The program is expected to be broadcast live on Vietnam Television, Dien Bien Provincial Radio and Television Station and several other provinces and cities.
The main activities planned to be held within the framework of the festival include: Opening ceremony; Cultural activities (folk song, folk dance, folk music festival of ethnic groups); Sports activities (con tossing, crossbow shooting, rice cake pounding, tug of war, firecracker pulling competition, ammunition carrying);
Tourism activities introduce the cultural space of the highlands and display and promote tourism products. In addition, there are other activities such as Street Parade; Hoa Ban Beauty Contest 2025; Organizing Presstrip program.
In addition, Dien Bien province also organizes a number of activities before and after the festival in many districts and towns such as the Swallow-tailed Boat Racing Festival in Muong Lay town (from January 3-5, 2025);
Cherry Blossom Festival in Dien Bien Phu City (in January 2025); Bull Fighting Festival in Dien Bien Dong District (in January 2025); Goat Fighting Festival and Mong Panpipe Performance in Tua Chua District (in February 2025) and many other sports activities, cultural exchanges, festivals, and traditional New Year's Eve in the locality.
