On the morning of February 5 in Hanoi, a working delegation from Dien Bien province led by comrade Tran Quoc Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, together with comrade Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and representatives of directors of the following sectors: Transport, Finance, etc., had a direct working session with the collective leadership of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the situation of Vietjet Air's flight operations in Dien Bien. Specifically, immediately after the completion of the Dien Bien Airport upgrade and expansion project, Vietjet Air actively promoted the opening of the Hanoi-Dien Bien route on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the Ho Chi Minh City-Dien Bien route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays every week.
In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City - Dien Bien - Ho Chi Minh City route in 2024 had 55,454 flights (26,003 departures; 29,451 arrivals) and in January 2025, the total number of passengers on this route was 2,972 (949 departures; 2,023 arrivals).
With the presence and active activities of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company in Dien Bien, it has made an important contribution to the overall success of Dien Bien province in organizing the national celebration of the "70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory" and a series of events of Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024 and has made an important contribution to the overall development of the province in recent times.
Leaders of Dien Bien province and leaders of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company agreed on the contents at a working session on the morning of February 5 in Hanoi.
Expressing deep gratitude to the leadership and contributions of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company to the overall development of Dien Bien province in the past time, at the working session, Comrade Tran Quoc Cuong, Secretary of Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee, requested Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company to continue maintaining the Dien Bien - Ho Chi Minh City route and vice versa with reasonable frequency to create conditions for Dien Bien to attract investment and develop tourism.
Regarding the cooperation and sharing mechanism, Dien Bien province has proposed immediate solutions to support the airline in the process of implementing operations to carry out the task of socio-economic development, ensuring social order and safety in the area. Along with that is support for marketing and promotion, including: tourism promotion campaigns in which coordination with airlines to promote local routes and destinations. Sponsoring advertising of flight routes on a number of media channels; Signing long-term cooperation agreements with airlines to ensure maintenance of flight routes.
Regarding long-term solutions, Dien Bien will continue to improve socio-economic infrastructure, especially infrastructure serving tourism, entertainment areas, accommodation facilities, travel agencies, etc.
Along with that, Dien Bien proactively launched stimulus programs and service product packages to attract tourists to Dien Bien; strengthened connections for people in neighboring provinces such as Son La, Lai Chau to travel through Dien Bien Airport to fly from Dien Bien to Ho Chi Minh City...; focused on developing key products and new products, joined hands to build common promotion programs to boost tourist attraction to the area.
Congratulating the results that Dien Bien province has achieved in the past year and also agreeing with the solutions that Dien Bien province has proposed in cooperation, attracting investment, developing tourism and attracting tourists to the area, the representative of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Chairman of the Board of Directors, agreed with the proposal of Dien Bien province to continue maintaining the Ho Chi Minh City - Dien Bien - Ho Chi Minh City flight route at Dien Bien airport. The airline's ticket sales opening time will be detailed throughout the system for the people of Dien Bien and other provinces to update.
Previously, on February 1, 2025, Vietjet Air announced the temporary suspension of flights from Dien Bien Phu Airport to Ho Chi Minh City (and vice versa) from February 12, 2025 until further notice. This announcement by Vietjet Air made many people, officials and civil servants in the provinces in the Northwest region such as Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau... disappointed. Because this flight route not only contributes to shortening travel time but also promotes trade, tourism and investment attraction, creating momentum for socio-economic development, national defense and security for Dien Bien province and neighboring provinces and regions.
Although the initial phase of the flight route did not bring high economic efficiency to the airline, Vietjet's contribution to Dien Bien province has brought about clear results. Thanks to this route, the travel needs of people and tourists attending the activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory have been met in a timely manner, creating an important mark in the development of historical tourism; at the same time, creating an important lever to help Dien Bien attract investment, better performing the role of the outpost of the border province at the headland of the Fatherland...
