According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first two months of 2024, Hong Kong (China), China and Singapore all dramatically increased their imports of live crabs from Vietnam, contributing significantly to Vietnam's total live crab export turnover increasing more than four times compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 11.3 million USD.

Of which, the export of live mud crab (green crab) and live crab to Hong Kong (China) increased 2.2 times to over 1.6 million USD in the past 2 months, accounting for 14% of Vietnam's total live crab export.
Mainland China is the main consumer market for Vietnam's live crab products, accounting for 82% of export value to markets, with the strongest increase in turnover, nearly 6 times higher than the same period last year, reaching over 9.2 billion USD, mainly live mud crabs.
Although the turnover is still modest, Singapore's demand for importing live crabs from Vietnam has increased five times compared to the same period last year and is the third largest market after China and Hong Kong (China).
In February alone, Vietnam's live crab exports reached nearly 10 million USD, possibly due to the Lunar New Year holiday in China and other Asian countries, increasing demand for live products.
Mud crab is a popular farming species in some Asian countries such as Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam... Mud crab has high demand and price in the international market. Crab meat is very delicious and many countries in the world import large quantities of crab for consumption every year. Mud crab is one of the products with high economic value, many people in Ca Mau intercrop with shrimp and fish.
Also according to VASEP, in the first two months of this year, Vietnam's total imports of crabs and other crustaceans reached 33.7 million USD, nearly double that of the same period last year.
Of which, crab exports reached 24.6 million USD, a 2-fold increase, crab exports reached 8.8 million USD, an increase of 53%, the rest were other crustaceans. Live crab exports alone accounted for 1/3 of the value with 11.3 million USD.
In addition, Vietnam also exports crabs, frozen crabs, processed crabs such as ground field crabs, canned pasteurized crabs, crab legs, snow crab meat, snow crab leg meat... to typical markets such as the US, Japan, Korea, and Australia.
