PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) signed a contract to supply LNG for the commercial operation of Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plants, marking the milestone of PV GAS becoming the first and only long-term LNG gas power supplier in Vietnam.
Following the LNG supply contract for the trial run of Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants signed by the two parties in the fourth quarter of 2024, LNG will be supplied for the testing work according to PV Power's project progress.
PV GAS and PV Power have successfully negotiated and signed a contract to supply LNG for the entire commercial operation of these power plants for 25 years from 2025.
PVN General Director Le Ngoc Son led a working delegation at Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant with leaders of PV GAS and PV Power. |
Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant Project is a national key project, built in Ong Keo Industrial Park, Phuoc Khanh Commune, Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai Province. The project has a capacity of 1,624 MW, with a total investment of 1.4 billion USD. When put into operation, the project will add about 9 billion kWh of electricity per year to the national power system. This is the only LNG power project out of 13 LNG power production projects under the Power Plan VIII to be invested and operated on schedule.
The signing of the LNG supply contract for the commercial operation phase of Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plants continues to affirm PV GAS's position as a pioneer and leading enterprise in the gas and LNG sector in Vietnam, the only unit currently capable of meeting the increasing demand for clean energy for the economy.
PV Power also confirmed the first important success in investing in large-scale LNG power projects, along with the conversion of a number of natural gas power plants to LNG.
The two corporations have implemented a roadmap to turn imported LNG into the main fuel source for gas-fired power plants in Vietnam, gradually replacing the rapidly declining natural gas source in the Southeast region.
At the same time, the contract to supply LNG for commercial operation of 2 power plants between 2 corporations - leading member units of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) participates in the national energy transition process, meeting the Government's commitment at COP26 on Net Zero by 2050 and the requirements of Power Plan VIII.
