South Korea's exports of information and communications technology (ICT) products hit their second-largest value on record last month, despite a drop in chip sales, government data showed on Tuesday.
According to a report from the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea, ICT product exports reached $16.71 billion in February, up 1.2 percent from a year earlier. The country's ICT imports increased 5.6 percent year-on-year to $10.9 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $5.81 billion.

By product, South Korea's exports of semiconductors and display panels fell 3% and 5.1%, respectively.
However, South Korea's global mobile phone sales jumped 33.3 percent year-on-year. Exports of computers and communications equipment also surged 26.9 percent and 74.1 percent, respectively.
By country, ICT shipments to the US increased 11.5% year-on-year and those to Vietnam increased 15.6%. Exports to Thailand and India increased 124.3% and 54.9%, respectively.
However, ICT exports to China decreased by 19.6% mainly due to a significant decrease in semiconductor exports amid US restrictions on exports of high-bandwidth memory chips to China.
Shipments to the European Union fell 7.6% and to Japan fell 5.7% year-on-year in February, data showed.
