Very interested in the current issue that General Secretary To Lam just mentioned about the role of basic science and theoretical mathematics, according to which we must have theoretical mathematics to have artificial intelligence, a student asked the question about whether to choose a trending major or basic science.
In addition, many questions related to job opportunities, income after graduation... were raised by students in the Exam Season Consulting program of Thanh Nien Newspaper at the Song Cau Multi-purpose Gymnasium, Phu Yen province on the afternoon of March 16, with the direct participation of nearly 1,500 12th grade students.
B. THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN TREND INDUSTRY AND BASIC SCIENCE
Present at the program, Nguyen Nha Phuong, a student at Phan Dinh Phung High School, wondered: "If I study economic law, will the school introduce me to internships and jobs?"
At the Exam Season Consulting program in Song Cau Town (Phu Yen) yesterday afternoon, March 16, students asked many questions related to choosing the right major.
Master Le Trong Tuyen, Deputy Head of Training Management Department of University of Finance - Marketing, said that in the context of economic integration and highly developed trade between countries like today, understanding the law is very important to expand the market. University of Finance - Marketing trains economic law in an applied direction, so students are fully equipped with knowledge of law and economics and practice and intern based on specific situations through mock trials. The school also organizes field trips for students to enterprises and law organizations. After completing their studies, students can work in companies, enterprises, economic organizations, multinational companies, law consulting centers in the economic field...
A student is interested in job opportunities in the banking and finance industry and the salary of new graduates. Dr. Pham Hoai Nam, Head of Training Management Department, University of Finance and Accounting (Quang Ngai), said that this industry at the school is regularly reviewed and updated with training programs to closely follow practical needs and add more technology courses. "After graduation, students can work in positions such as financial analysts, tellers, credit officers at banks, financial enterprises... The income of new graduates depends on their ability and position. Students who are good at technology and have soft skills will have many job opportunities with high salaries," Dr. Nam informed.
Very interested in the current issue that General Secretary To Lam just mentioned about the role of basic science and theoretical mathematics, according to which theoretical mathematics is needed to have artificial intelligence, a student said: "Currently, many students choose "hot" majors, trending and popular majors such as business administration, finance and banking, artificial intelligence, semiconductor microchips... So with basic science majors such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, oceanography... what are the job opportunities?".
Students of Song Cau Town (Phu Yen) had an afternoon provided with a lot of necessary information about the majors recruited at the University.
Master Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of Information and Communication Department, University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University), commented: "Currently, basic science majors are chosen by fewer candidates because the names of the majors sound boring and difficult to learn. However, basic science is the foundation for developing thinking and developing the country. Over the past centuries, scientists have had breakthrough initiatives that have impacted the lives of all of us, such as inventing medicines, airplanes, the internet... Global issues such as climate change, environmental pollution... are now also in great need of research and resolution by scientists".
According to Master Tu, our country has introduced investment policies to develop basic science human resource training. Even universities have policies to encourage and attract candidates to study basic science and life science fields such as mathematics, physics, geology, environment... with scholarship packages worth billions of dong.
"To know which major to choose between trending and basic sciences, students must know what they like, what they want, and what is suitable for them. Currently, there are majors that combine basic sciences with other majors such as educational technology, land economics... to make it easier for students to choose," Master Tu further explained.

IS PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION MORE EXPENSIVE THAN PUBLIC SCHOOL?
Besides, a student at Phan Dinh Phung High School wondered: "I heard that private school tuition is quite expensive compared to public school, is that true or not?"
Master Hoang Thanh Tu noted that tuition fees are not determined by public or private factors but are based on program design, training scale, investment in facilities... "Tuition fees also depend on the number of credits that students register for. Ho Chi Minh City University of Science has a general program with tuition fees from 28 - 38 million VND/year, an English intensive training program from 40 - under 50 million VND/year, and an advanced program from 60 - under 70 million VND/year," Master Tu shared.
Regarding the University of Finance and Accounting, Dr. Pham Hoai Nam informed that the school collects tuition fees according to Government regulations, an average of 18 million VND/year, 75 million VND/course. "A quality program also requires a lot of investment and so tuition fees will also be higher. Each training program has many modules, each school has different investments so the costs are different and the tuition fees students pay will be commensurate with the conditions and quality of training," Dr. Nam said.
At Nha Trang University, according to Master Do Van Cao, Deputy Head of Training Department, students of the school pay an average tuition fee of 16 - 18 million VND/year depending on the number of credits. Accordingly, 310,000 VND/credit for general subjects and 450,000 - 550,000 VND/credit for specialized subjects. Advanced programs have higher tuition fees.
The advisory board continuously answers students' questions.
Although it is a private school, Thai Binh Duong University has an average tuition fee of only 8.7 million VND/semester, 3 semesters per year. "Although the tuition fee is not too high, the learning conditions of students are still guaranteed because the school invests in practice equipment; and from the first and second years, students have had the opportunity to experience internships at businesses," shared Dr. Huynh Thanh Trang, Head of the Faculty of Design and Communication at Thai Binh Duong University.
Students of the standard program of the University of Finance and Marketing pay 30 million VND/year. In addition, the integrated program tuition is 45 million VND/year, the full English program tuition is 64 million VND/year. Meanwhile, Dr. Nguyen Cong Minh, Head of the Graduate School, Duy Tan University, said that the school's mass program has tuition from
13 - 15 million VND/semester; advanced international programs, international joint programs, bilingual study or studying entirely in English have higher tuition fees.
I passed my first choice but want to study my second choice, what should I do?
A student at Phan Chu Trinh High School is worried about the admission process. This student said: "I placed my first choice and was accepted, but for some reason I want to study my second choice. Is there any way?"
Master Hoang Thanh Tu mentioned 2 situations: "If you are still in the registration adjustment period, you can completely rearrange your wishes by changing the major in your 2nd priority wish to your 1st priority wish. But if you have already passed your 1st choice and want to study your 2nd choice, you must not confirm your admission to your 1st choice and wait for additional consideration if the major in your 2nd choice still has quotas."
However, according to Master Tu, this is quite risky because very few schools recruit additional students, especially in "hot" majors. "Therefore, during the registration process, students need to be very careful and consider carefully to set the right wishes. The major they want to study and is within the score range that is likely to be admitted should be their first wish. Then come the majors with the next priority level," Master Tu reminded candidates.
