Dealing with poultry smuggling at its root

After SGGP Newspaper and other newspapers reported on the situation of illegal poultry breeds flooding into the provinces of Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hanoi City... on the afternoon of October 3, Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Ho Tien Thieu held an urgent meeting to discuss solutions to prevent and handle cases of illegal transportation of poultry and poultry products through the area.

Smuggled poultry at Lang Son border gate is loaded onto motorbikes and transported to consumption points.

At the meeting, Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Permanent Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee, Head of Steering Committee 389 of Lang Son province, informed that the illegal transportation of smuggled poultry has appeared in Loc Binh district and Chi Ma border gate area (Loc Binh district) since July 2023. Up to now, the authorities have broken up a total of 31 cases with more than 100,000 smuggled chickens and ducks. The border guards are responsible for managing and preventing smuggled goods in the border area; and when goods enter the inland, the responsibility lies with the police and market management forces. However, the subjects smuggling poultry are very reckless, so prevention is difficult even though the interdisciplinary forces have deployed many measures.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Market Management Department of Lang Son province, up to now, the market management force in this province has broken up 6 cases with more than 40,000 ducklings, more than 4 tons of whole slaughtered ducks and 2.5 tons of smuggled chicken feet. From now until the Lunar New Year, it is predicted that the situation of poultry smuggling will continue to be complicated.

Chairman of Loc Binh District People's Committee Hoang Van Chieu proposed to identify the border guards as the core force and proposed that the Border Guard Command of Lang Son province increase the force for Chi Ma Border Guard Station; customs, market management and police forces also continue to provide additional support.

Affirming that the cases of illegal poultry seizures have shown that the situation of illegal poultry import into the area is very hot, Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Ho Tien Thieu requested the police, border guards and functional agencies such as Steering Committee 389, People's Committees of border districts to develop a detailed plan to handle the situation of illegal poultry import; border guards increase control points in border areas; market management must take responsibility, strengthen control of routes from Chi Ma border gate to the inland. Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee requested Lang Son Provincial Police to establish a special project to investigate and handle illegal poultry traders, "hitting" them at the root.
