According to the Department of Animal Health, in 2024, the situation of illegal trading and transportation of livestock and poultry across the border into Vietnam will be complicated, increasing the risk of infection and spreading dangerous diseases, seriously affecting the livestock industry.
Veterinary management agencies have coordinated with localities to handle a total of 229 violations with a total of 91,500 poultry eggs; more than 1.12 million animals and nearly 243,000 kg of animal products. Compared to the same period in 2023, there has been an increase of 53 violations; 38,400 poultry eggs; more than 671,900 animals and nearly 213,000 kg of smuggled animal products.
To ensure food safety before, during and after Tet, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that provinces and cities strengthen inspection and examination of animal transportation and trading according to regulations, especially surprise inspections and examinations of veterinary and food safety at animal slaughterhouses.
