As Thanh Nien reported, last weekend, driver NHGB (living in Tien Giang) was fined by the Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 7 (Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security) after Mr. B. "showed off" on social media a clip of him driving at 210 km/h on the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway. In addition to determining that Mr. B. was driving at a speed exceeding the speed limit (the maximum speed allowed on the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway is 90 km/h), the Traffic Police also determined that Mr. B. was using a driver's license that had expired since February 2015.
Traffic police fined driver NHGB
Stories of people posting clips on social media about acts that defy traffic safety regulations like Mr. B's case have appeared quite a lot in recent times. At the end of December 2023, Ms. NTDM was also fined after posting a clip on social media recording a car driving at 140 km/h in a residential area in Thu Duc City (HCMC) where the maximum speed limit is only 60 km/h.
Recently, on January 6, Ho Chi Minh City Police announced the completion of the investigation conclusion, transferring the case file to propose prosecuting Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Trinh (model Ngoc Trinh) for the crime of "disturbing public order" related to organizing the filming, staging and posting clips of "letting go of the motorcycle handlebars" on social media accounts with a large number of followers, causing negative impacts, adversely affecting security and order in cyberspace.
"Do they know they are wrong?"
Many readers of Thanh Nien Newspaper asked: "Do they know they are wrong when they do such acts that defy traffic safety laws?". Minh Nghia added: "If they know, but still do it, and even comfortably post it on social networks for the whole village to see, then that is the most worrying thing."
Most of the judges believe that in addition to administrative sanctions such as revoking driving licenses, fines, and impounding vehicles, there should be stronger sanctions. Judge Lai Quang Tan stated: "In cases where a driving license is no longer valid, it must be considered an act of driving without a driving license. We request that the traffic police notify all testing centers to permanently prohibit them from taking driving license exams." Agreeing, Judge Nguyen Quoc Huy said: "We must impose heavy penalties to stop the habit of showing off regardless of legal regulations." Judge Huynh Chanh also suggested that "we must research and issue a form of punishment that is to confiscate the violating vehicle so that they will be afraid."
Commenting on the recent appearance of "ridiculous acts" on social networks related to racing, car modification, car testing..., BĐ Trường Lưu analyzed: "It shows that a part of the people are still not fully aware of illegal acts, just following the crowd, seeing others doing it, doing the same, then getting drunk on views and likes, regardless of everything."
Tight management, early prevention
Agreeing with the comment of Truong Luu's Committee on the fact that many people are not fully aware of the seriousness of traffic safety violations, Tuan An Committee suggested: "In addition to increasing supervision and punishment... there should be more propaganda channels to educate people about the law". "Hopefully, through the story of the model who let go of the motorcycle handlebars and was prosecuted, many people will be startled to realize that joking or showing off can be severely punished, especially don't joke with the law", Thuan Committee stated.
Not only strictly handling violations when they are detected, many BĐs also suggested that management agencies need to manage more closely and prevent illegal content from appearing on social networks sooner. BĐs Thuy expressed her opinion: "How can we not let the social network environment be exploited by people who like to show off their ridiculous antics?"
Just a few minutes of recklessness and the price to pay is too high.

Driving at such speeds is dangerous for those around you, but the current fine for this behavior is too low.

Change the way you react, everyone. Instead of arguing, let's report nonsense and toxic content together to keep the social network environment clean.
