More than 1.5 million motorbike license plates are about to be auctioned.

On March 6, the license plate auction organizer announced the list of license plates that will be auctioned at the 6th auction. In this session, more than 2.1 million license plates were listed.

Notably, for the first time, the units will auction more than 1.55 million motorcycle and motorbike license plates. The remaining 624,000 plates are for cars. The number of license plates has been made public for people to choose.

The two localities with the largest number of license plates put up for auction are Hanoi (217,754 license plates) and Ho Chi Minh City (212,026 license plates). The auction time has not been announced.

The starting price of the motorcycle and motorbike license plates put up for auction is 5 million VND.

Decree 156 currently stipulates that the form of vehicle license plate auction is online auction. The auction method is the ascending bid method.

In particular, the starting price for car license plate auction is 40 million VND, increasing every 3 years from January 1, 2025, each time increasing by 5 million VND.

The starting price of the license plate of motorbikes and scooters put up for auction is 5 million VND, increasing every 3 years from January 1, 2025, each time increasing by 1 million VND.

The starting price of license plates in the format AAAAA (A>4), ABCDE (A 4) to be auctioned again after the second time is 500 million VND for car license plates and 50 million VND for motorbike and scooter license plates.

The deposit is equal to the starting price of a vehicle license plate to be auctioned. The deposit is deposited into the separate payment account of the property auction organization opened at a bank from the date of listing the property auction until two days before the auction opening date.

In case of winning the auction, the deposit will be transferred to the Ministry of Public Security's specialized collection account to be paid into the state budget according to regulations. The bid step for car license plate auctions is 5 million VND; for motorbike and scooter license plate auctions is 500 thousand VND.

According to the Traffic Police Department, the first auction of car license plates took place on September 15, 2023. To date, after the implementation period, the authorities have collected nearly 4,500 billion VND for the State budget through the auction of car license plates.

From the next auction, in addition to the auction rules and regulations, the winning bidder who forfeits the deposit will not be refunded the deposit, the amount paid and will not be allowed to participate in the license plate auction for 12 months.
