The above information was shared by Ms. Nguyen Minh Phuong - Chief of Office of the General Department of Market Management (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - at the regular press conference for the fourth quarter of 2024 on the afternoon of January 7.

Ms. Phuong emphasized that this is not a simple decision, full of challenges, but really necessary and cannot be delayed in the current context of socio-economic development.

According to her, in many years of operating under the model of the General Department of Market Management, this force has achieved impressive results. Market management has detected and strictly handled thousands of major violations in the market, from fraud in the trading of gasoline, fertilizers, functional foods,... to cases of production and consumption of fake and poor quality goods.

In 2024, the market management force inspected and examined nearly 68,300 cases, handled 47,135 violations, and transferred 178 cases with signs of crime to the investigation agency. The total revenue paid to the state budget reached more than 541 billion VND, the value of infringing goods was 425 billion VND.

Implementing the policy of the Politburo and at the request of the Central Steering Committee, the Steering Committee for the arrangement and streamlining of the Government apparatus, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has decided to end the model of the General Department of Market Management and transfer the market management departments in localities to the People's Committees of provinces and cities for management.

The Chief of Office of the General Department of Market Management also affirmed that despite the change in the organizational model, the market management force will still maintain its leading role in market inspection and supervision, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of people and the business community.

When the market management force is transferred to the locality, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to deploy strong solutions to maintain and improve the effectiveness of market management and prevent counterfeit and fake goods.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will also coordinate closely with other relevant agencies to ensure consistency in market inspection and control. With the support of local authorities, market management forces will have sufficient tools and resources to handle violations thoroughly and effectively.

“We will deploy a modern technology system to monitor and track the market, helping to quickly detect and handle violations, especially in the trade of counterfeit and fake goods, protecting consumer rights in cyberspace,” said Ms. Phuong.

Ministry of Industry and Trade ends the model of General Department of Market Management In an urgent dispatch, the Ministry of Industry and Trade agreed to end the model of General Department of Market Management and study and propose a new model.
