Exploiting tourism development potential

Tien Ky is a remote commune with a population of over 78% ethnic minorities, located nearly 30 km from the gateway to Tan Ky district. This land is endowed by nature with a diverse ecosystem, majestic Hang Mo mountains and is home to many historical relics such as Le Loi temple, Ma training ground, Le Loi's army's headquarters, and many unique traditional cultural values of the local ethnic groups such as Buon Xao festival, Thai Minh brocade weaving village, etc.

Promoting that potential strength, in recent times, the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations of Tien Ky commune have promoted, mobilized and guided a number of families in the area to develop the Homestay tourism service. Initially, there has been a breakthrough, helping people have more jobs and income.

To develop tourism into an important economic sector of the locality, the Resolution of the 22nd Congress of the Tien Ky Commune Party Committee, term 2020 - 2025, has set this as one of the key tasks of the Party Committee. In the early stages of implementation, the work of mobilizing cadres, party members and people to develop the tourism economy encountered many difficulties. Because the people in the area are mainly ethnic minorities, have limited knowledge, and are accustomed to the self-sufficiency lifestyle left over from thousands of years ago.

Words go hand in hand with actions, while mobilizing the people, the Party Committee and the communal government have also sent 6 households (including 3 households of communal officials and civil servants) from Chieng and Phay - Thai Minh villages to study experiences in other provinces to pilot the project. Organizations in the communal political system regularly propagate and mobilize local people to regularly clean village roads and alleys, and preserve the natural landscape green - clean - beautiful - safe.

In particular, strengthening the promotion of the image of the land and people of Tien Ky commune, as well as fully exploiting the existing tourist attractions in the commune to attract tourists such as: Hang Mo cave area, Thai Minh brocade craft village, Le Loi temple, Buon Xao festival, building check-in points in some places with beautiful scenery. Along with that, the commune encourages people to continue to promote and preserve the cultural identity of the language, costumes, and culture of the Thai ethnic group.

To invest in building a Homestay service model, each family invests from 500 to 600 million VND in facilities - beyond the means of the local households. Therefore, the Party Committee, the government and socio-political organizations of Tien Ky commune have helped the households gradually approach the Agricultural Bank and the Policy Bank to borrow capital.

Up to now, the Homestay service model in 6 families has been operating stably, with an average monthly income of 30-40 million VND, creating jobs for 3-5 workers. From only knowing how to work and earn income from a few fields, people here now know how to do business with accompanying services such as food and beverage, brocade weaving, Tien - Dong wine, etc., bringing in income and significantly improving people's lives.

A typical example is the family of Ms. Lao Thi Hai, one of 6 households in the village selected by Tien Ky commune to pilot the Homestay tourism service model. Recently, Ms. Hai and 5 households of Chieng village and Phay - Thai Minh village have been given the opportunity by the commune to visit and learn from Homestay service models in Hoa Binh and Lai Chau provinces. After the visits and learning sessions, she has accumulated a lot of experience and boldly invested in and renovated the campus and suitable housing, and at the same time collected some souvenirs left by her ancestors to display for visitors to see and learn.

Although it has only been in operation since 2019, especially in the context of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ms. Hai's family has welcomed over 200 tourists from many different places. This is a positive sign that has encouraged her family to continue expanding this type of tourism to develop the economy in the coming time.

Infrastructure improvement, road expansion

In parallel with the development of Homestay services, the Party Committee and the government of Tien Ky commune have actively promoted and mobilized people to donate residential land, dismantle fences and constructions on land to expand the road to the commune People's Committee headquarters and tourist areas. With the motto of the State and the people working together, in the process of clearing the traffic safety corridor, 25 households of Tien Ky commune voluntarily cut down hundreds of trees, demolished hundreds of meters of fences and family architectural works to donate 4,000 m2 of land for the traffic route.

Accordingly, the roadbed will be widened to 13m, of which the concrete roadbed is 7m wide. The project is expected to be completed before the 20th of the 8th lunar month to serve the Buon Xao Festival in 2023. Along with clearing the traffic safety corridor on the route from the commune center to Chieng village, in the coming time, Tien Ky will continue to implement the clearance of the traffic safety corridor to upgrade the road section from Phay - Thai Minh village to Hang Mo with a length of 600m, 10m wide to serve tourists to visit and check-in the beautiful scenery.

A great success in the commune's mass mobilization work in 2023 is that the Party Committee and the Tien Ky commune government successfully mobilized Thai ethnic households to relocate the cemetery - clear the land, build a new, spacious and beautiful headquarters in the center of the commune, creating a new look for the locality in stimulating economic development.

Mr. Hoang Xuan Hanh - Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Tan Ky district shared: With positive changes in the way of thinking and doing of the people, along with the attention, investment and support of the Party committees and local authorities, the appearance of Tien Ky commune is increasingly changing, becoming an ideal destination for tourists to visit and experience community tourism in Phay - Thai Minh and Hang Mo villages as well as local festivals.

In the coming time, in order for Homestay tourism in Tien Ky commune to truly develop and attract tourists to visit and experience, the Party Committee and the commune government need to encourage and create favorable conditions for households with advantages to invest, exploit and promote the potential for tourism development in the locality. Thereby, contributing to the whole district to promote tourism development to become an important economic sector according to the Resolution of the 21st Tan Ky District Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025./.
