Vinh Long: Memorial area of ​​Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung

Born and raised in a middle-class family with a tradition of education, his childhood was associated with a historical context full of injustice and hardship of the colonial people. Going through primary school at Internate - Primaire school (Vinh Long) and secondary school at Collège De My Tho (My Tho province)... and school was also the place where the revolutionary activities of Pham Van Thien's youth began: Participating in revolutionary organizations in the early years of the 20th century: Nam Ky Student Union, Thanh Nien Cong San Doan, admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930, served as Secretary of the school Party Cell, working through the commune, district, and provincial Party Cells in My Tho. After participating in the demonstration and sentencing of the evil village chief Dang Van Trau in Tam Hiep commune - Chau Thanh district - My Tho province on the occasion of the International Labor Day celebration on May 1, 1931, he was arrested and taken through prisons: from My Tho prison to the Saigon beheading cell "Indochinese Communist Party case" in 1933 with two death sentences. Later, thanks to the democratic struggle movement in the country and the people of progressive countries, his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment and exiled to Con Dao... Eleven years of living in "hell on earth" with many stories about the prisoner with the alias Anh Hai Hung... On August 23, 1945, after the success of the August Revolution, he was welcomed back to the mainland by our Party and Government and continued his revolutionary life, participating in two resistance wars against the French and expelling the Americans with important responsibilities: Secretary of the Provisional Southern Regional Party Committee, Director of the Southern Public Security Service, Secretary of the Southern Central Bureau, Political Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Command... He contributed greatly to the victory in the liberation of the South and the reunification of the Fatherland. Entering the early days of the liberation of the South, going through the years of healing the wounds of war, reforming the society of the South, building the North, until the early years of the cause of national renewal... from North to South, in many fields, with important responsibilities: Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Minister of the Interior, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam... Comrade Pham Hung devoted his whole life to taking care of the people and the country.

On March 9, 1988, comrade Pham Hung left us while working in Ho Chi Minh City.

The life and example of a loyal and exemplary leader Pham Hung has been remembered forever by the country, homeland and people as stated in the speech of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh at the memorial service for comrade Pham Hung: “Comrade Pham Hung’s contributions to our country’s cause are enormous. His vibrant and rich life of activities is a shining example for all communists and all Vietnamese people. He is no longer here, but his image lives forever in our hearts…”

To commemorate the merits of an outstanding son of the nation and homeland, the Provincial Party Committee - People's Committee of Vinh Long province has built the Memorial Area of ​​Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung - a work of the heart - to educate the tradition for today's and future generations.

The memorial area for comrade Pham Hung has a total area of ​​3.2 hectares, including the following main items:

- Reception house: area 300 square meters, is the place to welcome guests to visit the memorial site.

- Memorial House: area of ​​1,050 square meters, is a place to burn incense in memory of Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung.

- Exhibition house: area of ​​670 square meters, is a place to display images - documents - artifacts on the topic: The life and career of Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung.

In addition, there are three outdoor items restored at a scale of 1/1, including: the solitary confinement cell of comrade Pham Hung in Con Dao from 1934 to 1945, the working house of comrade Pham Hung at the Central Office of the South (Tay Ninh province) from 1967 to April 30, 1975 and the working room of comrade Pham Hung at 72 Phan Dinh Phung - Hanoi from 1958 to 1967 and from 1978 to 1988.

With a large campus, a balanced and harmonious overall layout and a simple but solemn and elegant artistic structure in harmony with the natural landscape, the Pham Hung Memorial Site is worthy of the stature of a historical and cultural work "Beautiful in form, good in content..." as said by Comrade Truong My Hoa - Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam during her visit to Vinh Long on July 27, 2004.
