Việt NamViệt Nam03/04/2025

The Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 10 (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) has just sent a document to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the People's Committee of Vung Liem district and related units of Vinh Long province about the implementation of repairing Tu Ngat and Muoi Long underground sewers and some landslide locations on the banks of May Phop-Nga Hau canal (Vung Liem district).

The dredging project of May Phop - Nga Hau canal has been accepted, handed over for exploitation and use to the Vinh Long Provincial Irrigation Department from September 2019 to February 2020 and the project warranty period will end in February 2021. After receiving a report from the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee reflecting on the landslide situation of the May Phop - Nga Hau canal embankment, the Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 10 coordinated with departments, branches, sectors and localities of the province to inspect the current status and make a plan to repair the project, starting from April 1-30, 2025.

During the implementation process, the Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 10 requested Vinh Long province to coordinate, support and arrange staff to participate in monitoring and supervision with the units; at the same time, notify the people and water and land transport vehicles in the area about the time and area of the construction work and have a suitable production plan to facilitate the implementation of overcoming the landslides on the canal.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the May Phop-Nga Hau canal is 24.6km long, connecting communes in Vung Liem district (Vinh Long province) and Cang Long district (Tra Vinh province). Currently, there are 18 locations along the entire canal that have eroded and are at risk of erosion (total length of 670m); the recent erosion of the canal has caused the loss of about 500m2 of land, damaged 2 underground culverts and posed a potential risk of traffic safety, greatly affecting people's travel and production.
