On the afternoon of October 16, in Hanoi, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung received and worked with Deputy Assistant to the US President, Deputy National Security Advisor in charge of cybersecurity and emerging technologies, US National Security Council Anne Neuberger. At the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation in the fields of telecommunications infrastructure, 5G equipment, and OpenRAN standards.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung hopes to promote cooperation in the telecommunications field between Vietnam and the US to develop more strongly, especially when the two countries have become comprehensive strategic partners.
Vietnam is undergoing a second change in telecommunications, with telecommunications infrastructure becoming the digital infrastructure of the economy. Telecommunication infrastructure is being transformed into digital infrastructure to serve the digital transformation and digital economy in the country. In the production of 5G equipment, Vietnam has also achieved some successes. Currently, some Vietnamese telecommunications equipment has been sold in foreign markets, along with that, many domestic telecommunications enterprises have invested in technical infrastructure internationally.
Telecommunications are not only for people living in urban areas but also in rural areas, bringing new opportunities to everyone. In addition, telecommunications are important national infrastructure that needs to ensure safety and security. In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the agency responsible for testing equipment to ensure that it meets standards. The FCC uses laboratories of private companies that are certified to meet the standards to test telecommunications equipment.
Telecommunications cooperation plays an important and strategic role not only for the future economy but also for the national security of Vietnam and the US. Therefore, the two countries will continue to cooperate on telecommunications equipment standards, jointly research and build an ORAN lab in Vietnam, cooperate on network security and develop IoT devices.
