On the morning of February 28, in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO held a conference to review the work in 2022 and set out the direction for activities in 2023. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc, Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, chaired the conference.
Attending the Conference were representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, leaders of some provinces and cities, Head of UNESCO Office in Hanoi, representatives of the management board of UNESCO titles in Vietnam and experts in UNESCO's fields.
In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc, highly appreciated the achievements of the Commission in 2022 in the fields of cooperation with UNESCO. Vietnam was elected with the highest number of votes to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2022-2026 term.
Vietnam has been recognized by UNESCO with 4 more titles, including Cham Pottery Art - Intangible Cultural Heritage; 2 documentary heritages of the Asia-Pacific region, Mai Nhai Stele at Ngu Hanh Son Scenic Area and Han Nom Texts of Truong Luu Village; Cao Lanh City joins the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. The Director-General of UNESCO expressed his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements during his official visit to Vietnam in September 2022.
Notably, Vietnam is currently a member of three important executive and professional mechanisms of UNESCO, including the Executive Council for the 2021-2025 term, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions for the 2021-2025 term, and the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2022-2026 term; demonstrating Vietnam's increasingly enhanced role and position at multilateral forums.
At the Conference, delegates expressed their gratitude for the support, close and effective coordination of the Secretariat, and agreed with the assessments of the activities of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO in 2022.
Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO Ha Kim Ngoc acknowledged the practical and valuable contributions of the delegates to the Commission's direction of activities in 2023. To continue promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and UNESCO as well as contributing to the country's socio-economic development, the Commission has set out a number of key tasks in 2023, including: studying UNESCO's ideas to contribute to perfecting Vietnam's policies and legal documents in the fields of education, culture, science and information and communication; promoting public-private cooperation, mobilizing social resources for UNESCO's activities; promoting the role of an active and proactive member in important mechanisms of which Vietnam is currently a member.
