At the draw for the national volleyball championship, Mr. Le Tri Truong - General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation affirmed that the federation will develop its own regulations on the task of gathering the national team.
" The national team concentration is included in the regulations of the Department of Sports and Physical Training to prioritize national tasks above the interests of individuals and clubs. However, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation does not have such regulations. Therefore, we drafted the regulations for the 2024 season to attach the responsibilities of athletes and clubs and put national tasks first, " said Mr. Le Tri Truong.
" The regulations only count for one tournament, one year. This is the premise for us to build regulations and rules for the national team with athletes ."
The Volleyball Federation will issue regulations on national team training duties.
Previously, the tournament's regulations stated: " Athletes who are called up to the national team or national youth team for international competition but do not comply with the summons of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the Department of Sports and Physical Training for any reason (except in cases of force majeure and with the consent of the federation) will be banned from competing in the following year ."
In 2023, there was a case where an athlete asked to refuse to join the national team due to personal issues. The Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the governing body accepted the athlete's wishes, but this also faced mixed opinions from the public when the athlete repeatedly asked not to join the national team.
The 2024 National Volleyball Championship includes two categories for men and women, both with 9 participating teams. This is the final year in the professional transition process, shortened to 8 teams per category from next season.
In the first stage, the teams play a round robin to score points. The top 4 teams (from 1 to 4) enter the final round. The 5th ranked team stays in the league. The 4 teams ranked from 6 to 9 play a round robin to determine the 2 relegated teams.
Phase 1 of the national men's volleyball championship takes place from March 30 to April 6, 2024, and phase 2 from November 23 to December 1, 2024. Phase 1 of the national women's volleyball championship is from March 16 to March 23, 2024, and phase 2 is from November 9 to November 17.
